Long answer: Nuking the Moon will cause the Moon to blow up into millions of pieces which will travel towards Earth at high speeds, causing a Collision Course.
Don't worry if this happens just yet! You don't need to get the tin foil helmets out!
If this was to happen, most of the space debris will disappear before it makes impact on our planet. Any debris that doesn't disappear will just be some space dust entering our world.
There is a 1 in 1, 000 chance any space debris can impact the buildings we live in.
But what would you do if this was to happen? That is a question for another What If.

The question is moot. The Outer-Space Treaty ratified in 1967 strictly prohibits any deployment or testing of any nuclear weapons anywhere in space. So any hypotheses on the effects on the Moon, or Mars, or Jupiter, or Pluto, or Alpha Centauri are all nothing more than sci-fi. The only real-world effects would be severe international repercussions for whoever dared violate that treaty.

I can list many things on why America would be a clown for doing this: Harmful radiation to the soldiers, if there is an urgent emergency, they may die before America can even reach the moon, it may cost too much, the constant stream of rockets to get the resources there will not only be expensive, but also bad news for climate change, and many more reasons.

The sad thing is my family and I have a very vivid memory of them actually doing this and us locking it onto our dvr and rewatching it over and over again until one day it just disappeared from our dvr we were all upset about it getting deleted and no one else seems to remember the event despite the fact that it was a world wide event it-s weird

The main problem was not mentioned: also Earth rotation would be faster, 1 day wouldn't take cca. 24 hours, but probably 6-8 hours (if we destroy Moon or send it out of Earths orbit)

OMG you youngsters kill me. NASA did nuke the moon with a small 2 kt warhead testing the moons composition. It happened in 2009 but wasn't aired on the news until 2012.
