What If You Drained the World's Largest Atoll?

Let-s face it. There are A LOT of us, and it-s getting more than a little crowded. Right now, there are over 7. 7 billion people on Earth, and the United Nations predicts we'll have 8. 6 billion people sometime in 2030. And that's a problem. Many scientists think Earth can only support 9 to 10 billion people. We-re running out of room. But, could there be a way to get more land to accommodate our ever-increasing population? Enter the atoll, made of doughnut-shaped underwater mountains, and islands, formed by underwater volcanoes. Could these submerged rings of land be just the thing we need to create more living space? What if we could drain the world-s largest atoll? Would we benefit from this? Or would it make things way worse?

Tell this to the Chinese Goverment, who destroyed not one ir two, more than 15 of them in the middle of the ocean which was part of the private ocean of Phillipines, Vietnam, Malasia, Indonesia and Brunei. So, this is not what if. This is something that already happended.

Also, why not life in sky cities, underwater cities or artificial floating cities? That and Elon Musk's Mars converted into Earth 2. 0, first half of life in Mars would be inside deep in the canyons since gravity gets closer to that of Earth's.

Why make it so difficult there are so many land in north America Europe Australia and Asia.
And we just need the rich not be greedy and not make extra and an wanted money so the world will be a good place for everyone.

reply

We just need to stop converting nature to useless paper which soon become really useless and start thinking the meaning why we are given this short life for. Otherwise we will be killed by nature much sooner.

If we-re going to have a global population problem do I have to make some sort of thing where we-re going to have to execute 2 billion people but they will have to volunteer it-s their choice
reply

I really don-t believe that overpopulation is the issue. We have plenty of resources to feed everyone, the issue is allocation. I really disapprove of this intro, but otherwise great video
reply

That-s BS. I-ve read in National Geographic a few years back, 7 billion people can fit in Los Angeles area alone and still have space to dance. 9 billion won-t fill up the world lol

You realize that the atoll was drained 24, 000 years ago. Sea level was 120 meters lower during the ice age. The corals must have been growing like crazy to stay ahead of the flooding.
reply

We are better saving our coral reefs, and if the worlds population is that much of a problem, Governments need to stop the welfare payments that encourages women to keep having kids.
reply

we don't need more living space, we only need to increase agriculture productivity, and cheaper and greener water desalination 1000 sq km can acomodate 10 million comfortably
reply

Well we will certainly know in a few years what are the real effects since several atolls have already been turned into military grade islands in the South China Sea.
reply

more or less what chinese are doing, making land out of atoll. US do that too during the cold war- the johnston atoll. regardless best to keep them for what they are
reply

I heard that if you gather all the people around the globe and put them in 1 place it would fill the whole state of Texas, all of it NO SPACES.
reply

Overpopulatian problem? Simple, just nuke india and china. Problem solved. And if that caused WW3, it would be better to solve overpopulation.
reply

We are not running out of room. There is a lot of vacant land between cities. If we all were to together we would only fill up a small state.
reply

Um. I learned in geology class that the islands didn't just sink. Erosion plays the biggest role in wearing down Islands to the Atoll stage.
reply

If we build a community under water, it would be more catastrophic. Giving more access to human to pollute body of waters. So, NO NOOO

Everybody: Little can be done to solve the rising unemployment rate
Corona: Hold my corona beer and allow me to introduce myself

reply

This is a bad reason. There-s enough land for a lot of people, and adding atoll land would add such a trivial amount of land
reply

Earth: Overpopulation is destroying me.
Corona: Let me do the job.
World war 3: Need help? Youre too slow.

reply

Its scratching my head too much. how can these coral rims (atolls) float when the islands sinks to the bottom?
reply

Because of love we populate.
That's why I believe Queen's song which is -Too Much Love Will Kill You-.

reply

how abt we just stopped having so many children. kind of like what-s happening all over the world now?
