What If We Lived on a Super Earth?

Watch our Discussed episode where we dive deeper into the topic with Dr. Jack Madden: Scientists have discovered many planets similar to Earth beyond our solar system. These exoplanets can be up to 10 times larger than Earth, which might be ideal for our growing population. But with more mass comes more gravity, and despite having more space for life, we'd be heavily affected in many ways on a Super Earth. So, what would happen if we evolved on a bigger planet? What would life be like on a Super Earth? What are the risks?

What if you lived there for a few years and then (Somehow) returned to earth, trained to live on much higher gravity, muscles tightened like pianostrings, and bones with the density of titatium, would you be a Superman? Maybe not fly or have lasereyes but able to leap tall buildings in a single jump? Tossing enemies in to the stratosphere? Cushing a tank with your bare hands? Survive getting hit by a bus? Carry all of your shopping in one go? Or would you devolve in to a regular human real fast, would that cause any health problems after you already survived the healthrisks on a super earth. How much would you need to eat to maintain that strength, what if you where Captain America for real? How much more calories would you need to consume to stay that way?

I think humans were just aliens brought to earth and animal DNA were just inserted into their genetic material so that we wouldn't think we were aliens. I think of us maybe coming from a super earth with greater gravity, which makes apes and monkeys to walk on four legs. When we were put on earth, we were able to walk upright because the gravity is less which means less pressure on our limbs, enabling our ancestors to start and walk upright.

I think there ain't no planet other than earth which is habitable as the circumstances that led up to the earth being such a rare planet are millions to billion because in earth's history of circumstances a single second could've have made the difference between habitable or inhabitable so I just greatly appreciate earth and I am ready to always stand with Earth I consider myself a Earth supremacist

It could maybe be possible to increase gravity on slightly less massive planets but i think decreasing g on super earths will be really difficult. It would be nice if one could alter mars gravity by perhaps increasing its mass density at it-s core somehow.

Kepler 22-b is habitbale
although.
its gravity is 12 G so if you way 120 lbs (55kg) on earth,
you would way 1440 lbs (660kg) on kepler 22-b
kepler 22-b is 30, 000 km (18, 600 mi)
while earth is 12, 600 km (7, 820 mi)

reply

10x Earth mass would not equal 10x Earth G because of the greater diameter being, provided the planets' densities are closely similar, only a bit over twice Earth's, because of the inverse ratio of gravity strength with increasing distance.

These -What ifs- are great, but they should include that if we're born on a super earth, our physiology would adapt for us to live there. Our technology would also evolve to work with the conditions of the planet.

Wdf would any person want to live on a planet with diffrent gravity? F that. Either we figure out to alter gravity if it-s even feasible or just forget it.
reply

We are just living in a 7-8 percent of earth surface!
Just think what I meant to say -
It will surely solve every problem -
Atleast 70% sure!

If it was really super earth then we might be evolved as super human too because of this gravity our body might have evolved organs and skeleton too

Everything seems so impossible to achieve or do in space. We might as well accept there is a Christian god that created everything and wants our souls

Earth is special and just for us but we need a new planet to live on or a couple of planets to live on otherwise we'll just destroy everything.
reply

So basically we would be Kryptonians or Saiyans
Beings who were forced to evolve on higher gravity world and in the process become stronger

reply

Lol why take this planet as an optimal example we adapted to this environment but it might be better on a Super earth people are dumb monkeys
reply

But if super-earth has 10 of earth's masses, gravity can't be 10x, because diameter also will be larger -2x, gravity will be 2-2. 5x

Look how God has made a perfect earth. With all the scientific theories we're trying to find out the creation process.

The liquid iron in the core DOES NOT generate our magnetic field.
The Birkeland currents generate our magnetic field.

reply

Maybe instead we should mine these larger planets and make artificial habitats with the material in space.

Humans is wondering about what's happening in space when we should worry about what's happening on land

What If: gravity is greater on a super earth. Goku I want to train there
