The Hubble telescope has helped discover over 4100 exoplanets in recent years, some of those being categorized as Super Earths. But what exactly does that mean? What makes them so Super? Are they conducive to the formation of intelligent life? And what will new super telescopes-, like the James Webb telescope launching in 2021, further discover about Super Earths' and their potential to one day be habitable. maybe even for us? Join Peter, Richard and astronomer Dr. Jack Madden from Cornell University as they discuss What If you lived on a Super Earth?

My meagre thought, after watching ur informative and detailed what if's, if we can put in mind as a human race we dont want to be extinct, but we must move out side of our galaxy to avoid the collision of our massive milky way black hole or the andromeda galaxy merging with our galaxy; the fear is not from our sun at all because its not estimated for our star sun to turn to a red giant and then a a black dwarf, unless after a couple of billion years from now; as our ancestors in the 20th and late 19th centuries we know its inevitable; actually iam to fond of Elon Musk's thinking and very fond of him as well as about his upcoming project for the mars mission not as tourists but colonizing exoplanets with the technology that we have as a civilisation 1 race as a human species; also i was very fascinated with -the what ifs- documentaries for our age which is the modern civilisation 2 of our human race type 1 is evolving to the Nano technology age not only in cosmetology but also in increaising the life span of the human beings to become a humanoid, i studied it as dentist in genetic engineering; coming back, light year travel can be achieved not only on the long term but on the short term said previously by scientists, professors and doctors, most of your documentaries, theories, hypothesis as well as studies prove that we need to unite against the total destruction of our plant resources from misuse of our atompeshpric layer, plant resources, uncontrolled human increase of population with a well known knowledge of the havoc we caused to our plant's resources also in our plant's damage is an irrevirsavbile damage, and also on putting in mind, what we have caused to our plant's core and magnetic gravitational protective shield against cosmic radiation.

Super Earth, its SO! BEAUTIFUL! lets land. WAIT! we are caught in the gravity well we can not leave OOOOOHHHHH all this gravity hurts x3 gravity i was 180LB now I'm 540LB OOOOHHHHH this hurts, it hurts to walk, to breath, to move. I know they hard to find but i would say lets look for something only slightly bigger than earth like 0. 35 bigger or smaller. like something x2 the size of mars to 0. 75 the size of earth. A little less gravity to be lighter and make it easy to get back off the ground but not to weak we need at least 2/3 Earth Gravity or better for a planet to hold on to enough of its atmosphere to live on. BUT! i would not want to land on a world that has a 1. 5 gravity or greater.

What if plastics became naturally biodegradable like wood?
I've heard a theory that nature is very slowly evolving to be able to digest plastics, and some scientists have actually discovered plastic- eating bacteria. Only then, plastic will rot like any other organic material and lose its value of lightweight durability.
What will happen then? Will all our plastic-dependent economies crumble, or will humanity cease to exist before plastic is digestible?

Humans cannot survive for a projected length of time on any surface other than 1G and 1 AU. The increased gravity on any super earth would render it uninhabitable for current humans. A modification to humans to flourish on such environments would require a transformation from human to a non human form

I wonder what the real condition of our planet, not just curiousity but as a human being who is afraid to lose the most precious thing in the galaxy.
Earth is not maybe ALONE than can -Possibly- sustain lives. Yet, we must all be prepared and just take care of our planet while we still have it -

Hi, What if,
Got a question for you but I think you know where to get sources:
What if all leaders in the world as Cruel as Rodrigo Duterte? Will all bad and half-bad people vanished completely?
Consider this please ---

I'm pretty sure they got this idea from me. because a few months ago I sent a email on doing a What If video describing what if on a super earth such as TrES-4b or HD 100446 b. Which is one of the largest exoplanets known.

If we lived in a super plant; we'd be a lot shorter than we are now. We'd be like midgets, 'cause the gravitional pull from the super earth would be so great that people wouldn't grow as tall as they are now.

The volume for Peter and Richard was fine, but I missed half of what Dr. Madden said because I couldn't hear him! It was frustrating. I'm imagining that what he had to say was interesting.

But why are we finding these superearths en not esrthsize planets? Is it because there are just more superearths or that it is harder to detect a aerth size planet?
reply

Well i just wanna clear up one thing if we find a planet that has life and is more than 1000 light years away that cuvilization is already dead most probably

Suggestion: What if we could transfer our important things inside our body and transfer them into a younger body
Or be a cyborg?

reply

Let me tell yall fools something, there's NO other planet we can live on besides this one, so let's start taking care of it.

: 05 this guy sounds familiar. /. something strange is goin on here. for the peace of the kingdom. for king and country.

To the best of our scientific knowledge, if we lived in 2g, how whiny and squishy would humanity prove to be?
reply

No planet can still be habitable than earth. Unless planet is hassle free like earth then it called be superearth

If I was powerful enough to invent a super earth I would invent a pot of French fries that never run out
