Twenty million years ago, the Megalodon was king of the oceans. The largest shark that ever lived. It ate other mega sharks for breakfast. But as an ice age engulfed the world, this enormous sea giant's time came to an end. What if, through a miraculous twist of fate, the Megalodon had managed to survive Just how large and scary would the Megalodon be today And what would happen to humans who went into the ocean Made possible with the support of Ontario Creates: Support us on Patreon: Get the What if book: Join this channel to get access to perks: Interested in sponsoring our episodes or collaborating Email us: contactunderknown. com Our other channels: How to Survive: Aperture: T-shirts and merch: Newsletter: What If elsewhere: Discord: Whatsapp: Instagram: Twitter: Facebook: Produced by Underknown: #whatif #megalodon #megalodonshark #evolution

A few things wrong with what was said in this video.
1. Baleen Whales never went extinct, and instead are the most abundantly seen types of whales in the world. It was for the most part Toothed Whales that went extinct with exception being Sperm Whales.
2. Scientist, and Paleontologist have both said and proven that ancient Baleen Whales were much smaller than our modern day Baleen Whales.
3. Baleen Whales didn't start to grow huge until after the extinction of Toothed Whales, and Large Sharks capable of preying on them.
4. Megalodon would of first needed to evolve to be smaller during the Ice Age to have effectively competed against Great Whites, Orca's and other modern sharks, when it came down to adapting to hunting smaller prey such as Seals, Sea Lions, Dolphins, etc. This would of left them not enough time to afterwards to evolve again to become large enough to hunt whales again.

Short cut They stop evolving because they have no place to live versus the other things that evolve around them. That simple. Big, slow, shark. Not enough slow moving big food. Orcas would love a Mega and eat them together: 0 Also a human would be like a shrimp to a Mega, so I mean, you don't matter much to it unless you start shooting flares at it.
reply

Why are you conflating evolution with a growth of size Its size was limited by competition and availability of food. If it had never stopped evolving, it would have adapted to its environment, which would not automatically have meant it got bigger. There's only so much food available.
reply

What are we basing the Megalodon being the size of a blue whale on Of the megalodon evolved till today, chances are just as good they'd gotten smaller. Probably better, due to human-overfishing decreasing the amount of food in the oceans
reply

A megalodon on average of 18 meter size is already the same as that of a sperm whale that is undoubtedly much smarter. In a nutshell, somewhat typically both exaggerated and overrated big shark that could be hunted by herd of orcas.

What if proxima B had a same civilisation as ours and is heading our way. what if we collide with them in the future as we earthlings plans to do the same
Thats a hypothetical for another. WHAT IF

reply

Let's be honest. if the Meg was still alive today, it would be hunted to extinction simply because of the danger it would pose to humanity. There's a reason it went and should stay extinct.
reply

What if, they still exist. What if, the scientist actually wrong abt extinction, since sea still unexplored quite a lot, what if they actually exist in deep ocean
reply

idk if it would be any difference, theres sharks today big enough to kill humans, it happens now and then and still people will go into shark waters
reply

who believes in evolution anyway if one really thinks about it, non living matter to evolve into a living matter is impossible
reply

If the meg continued to evolve they'd probably be smaller to fit the environment and food source. The food source would change too
