The Great Man Theory of history is too unfairly maligned. It's obvious to me that sometimes there HAS been a single person, in the right place at the right time, who was indispensable.
One of my favorite examples is George Washington. Not to lead the Continental Army - Wayne or Arnold could have done that - nor to be the first President - Franklin or Adams could have done that - but to go before the victorious army, impatient to receive their pay, when they planned to march on the capital and overthrow the Congress, and beg them to let democracy take its course. It took a leader who was profoundly trusted by the men, and who was strong enough to resist the temptation of a crown.
That was, among other things, a victory Washington won over himself. He knew his own strengths, and knew that he'd make a very good king. He loved honors and accolades, and could get very upset if he didn't receive an honor he thought he had earned. The idea of being crowned King of America probably appealed to him very much. But he knew that democracy would be better for the country in the long run, so he won a great victory over his selfish side, stepped out of his hut, and went before his men to tell them to be patient and trust in the decency of their fellow Americans.

in this timeline. Savimbi and UNITA wins in Angola due to Cape support. and no SADF mercs helping to kick him out. Angola becomes a Cape ally. Iriphabuliki is a zimbabwe like economically depressed country which has been rearming with Chinese and North korean help in order to conquer the Cape Republic. By 2021. due to 1 or two major wars between the two countries and constant border conflict. Both have national conscription. THe Cape military is more advanced, more professional and well trained while the Irphabuliki is larger in size. In the wars and border conflicts between them, the Cape usually comes out on top. though by 2021, the irphabuliki has a much improved military due to Chinese help. China controls the Iriphabuliki econmomy just like it controls the Zimbabwean economy. Also this changes history, in the Congo wars. without Angolan internvention, Kabilla is deposed, the 2nd congo war is a minor war. and the DRC is ruled by a Pro Rwanda gov. with wamba or bemba as pres. So in thsi timeline, as of 2021, the Cape's allies in Africa are Angola, DRC, Rwanda and Burundi. everyone else is allied to Irphabuliki.

Just saying I don't know about all this, but I was in High school in the 80's and I TOTALLY remember when Nelson Mandela did die or they told us he did! Just saying that I even remember who's class I was in when we were talking about how sad it was. so this does freak me out a little bit! And I will say I have a photographic memory. If something happens that is something major I can remember very vivid details, so I just am not mistaken, I have way to good of a long term memory. I am that class mate that other class mates call now after 34 years to settle disputes on the way something happened back then lol. I really do have a photographic memory so like I remember where I was sitting in the room and I was in health class my last class for the day! I have talked with other friends and asked them and they said they do remember that!

if anyone thinks the mandela effect is interesting, and sees this comment. look at human biology. specifically the rib cage.
interesting seeing wathif having encountered the mandela effect. have been seeing a change in his later stuff. he sees more of reality now. i very rarely find myself strongly disagreeing in the post 2019 stuff, where he suddenly started taking movement of people in to account. he is still only half awakened form the propaganda though. it seems he had no mandela effects to trigger him

It's really very ironic that the South African government was getting economic sanctions form America and Europe. Hypocrisy on an unbelievable scale. It's not like we waged genocide like the Americans or British, yet we are villainous Neo-Nazi's. Britain killed our country, we are still suffering for it and no one cares or even remembers. Apartheid was not right but the British and Americans have no right to dictate morality to anyone ever.

One thing you missed was South Africa possessed nuclear weapons, which they got rid of before 1994 so the ANC couldn't use them. Some Whites actually believed in scorched earth and burned down their own farms and sowed salt into the ground for fleeing the country. There's a good chance they would have nuked Pretoria or Johannesburg so the blacks couldn't get those cities.

I think one of the most interesting aspects of rejecting Great Person history in general is that you are left with a smaller number of situations where the effect of one person still appears to be vital to the outcome created, effectively making those people look even greater in their accomplishments than they did before. To me Mandela is certainly one of those people.

Good assessment.
The Cape would do what Ireland is doing now, become a tax haven for companies to create development hubs for tech.
Also, right now in the western cape there is a secessionist movement.
South Africa's economy has been declared junk status, the ANC is essentially a bunch of mobsters stealing tax money and enriching a small elite class.

ive always found the mandela effect funny, humans, infamously known for their shit memory and recreation and restructuring of loosely remembered events; but no rather than thinking that hey maybe i remember something wrong like the billions of other things in the past; its one of the ultimate reaches in terms of conspiracy
