From the incredible helicarrier crash in -Captain America: The Winter Soldier- to the realistic motion-capture-driven apes in " Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, " this year brought us some unbelievable special effects. Mike Seymour from fxguide counts down the top 10 design FX from 2014

The transformer effect where they turn into a swarm of small particles and then fly around like a swarm of bees and then reconstitute into an object is played out. It honestly didn't impress me as much as the mechanical reconfiguration of the automobiles turning into robots. I'm not saying that the people who worked on it didn't do a great job, because they did. It's obviously not an easy task to create the effect.
The final result though, is sadly, nothing new and in my opinion a poor choice for a transformers film.

I'd love to see more content like this, the work is well executed and give us a general idea of how and why they make the VFX that way, can't wait for the review of The Hobbit: the battle of the five armies

I'm pretty sure they didn't watch Big Hero 6. since the year still has over one more month to go, I'd think that The Hobbit will probably be on there too. Kind of early to do a -Top 10-.

Interstellar, Godzilla, and Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes should've been the top 3. And where's The Lego Movie.
