There is a difference between a fanfic and an adaption or re-telling of other stories.
He makes it seem like EVERYTHING is a fanfic. Put it all depends on what one defines as a fanfic.
Every single story has inspiration from other stories, no one can deny that, But that doesn't make them all fanfics.
Pacific Rim is based and inspired up on the japanese kaiju films. It's not a fanfic. It has it's own stories, and it's own characters.
In my opinion: fanfics are stories where fans take other peoples characters, world and lore, and play around with them as they where their own.
the Lord of the rings films could be called a fanfiction. But is is more a re-telling of the same story in a different medium. An adaption from book to screen. and yes, changes do happen when one try to adapt something. It is still not a fanfic, since the storyteller are still trying to base everything around the original material.
A fanfic would be more like a fan trying to answer questions -what happend after/before? - or -what happens if I put these characters in a different setting? - -What if I tell the story through a different character- etc etc
fanfics are basicly fans playing around with somebody elses characters and stories, because they don't feel the original material has provided enough information or experience of what the fan wanted.
I don't min people writing what they want, I personally just feel fan fiction is a personal thing between a fan and their fandom. that's why I think it's annoying when they get popular and get film adaptions and so on.
My inner thoughts: -It's not your characters! Invent something yourself! Stop eating other peoples cakes! -
My real response: -sight! oh whatever I guess. -

I Just Wanted To Say, I Loved The Twilight Series. I Know It Was Different But The First One Was Best. Off Topic, I Would Like To Say Fire-fly Serenity Was Cut To Short I Would Love To See That Revived. Also Do You Think It's Dumb Of Me To Love Tron Legacy I Know It's A Remake But It Blows My Mind The Whole Back Story And All. I Love It. I Have Been Watching Your Video's Angry Nerd, And Am Just Kinda Dumping My Thoughts Out Here Lol. I Admit They Made And Remade Spider-Man And The Incredible Hulk And Such Way To Many Times But The Amazing Spider-Man Actually Impressed Me Other then The Random Woman That Wasn't Mary Jane. And The Avengers I Thought Was Great As Well As Thor And Such They Could Have Done Abit Better On Some Details Though. They Are Trying New Things Such As Branching The Avengers Into A Series Agents Of S. H. I. E. L. D And Agent Carter I Like These Aswell Do You Think You Could Do A Video On Something About The Topic Of The Avengers And The Branch Out Series? Or Even On the Spider-Man's As In All The Retry's xD Or Something.

I honestly think that Hollywood will damage many of the book and movie fanfics, if they keep pushing them to the theaters before you give the sources of the fanfics a chance to settle in, not just with the hardcore fans, but also against the test of time. Look at Spaceballs, classic not only because it pays homage to Star Wars but also because the story takes the DNA of Star Wars and throws a comedy twist into that everyone loved.
On a side note but still dealing with fanfics, Star Wars episode 7, in my opinion, will possibly fall short of what Star Wars fans want to see in the movie because they are not running with George Lucas' script he had for what 7 could be nor with any of the Lucas approved fanfics that tell the events after episode 6, the Timothy Zahn trilogy, if someone doesn't know what i'm talking about. It's an excellent fanfic that deals with the events immediately after 6 and delves into a richer history about the Star Wars mythos and still covers the DNA of Star Wars that we all love and enjoy.

I have this idea for fan-fiction. If anyone has even heard the complete green day 21st century album, they know of the offical-unoffical story of Christian and Gloria. I have this idea for a story that takes place before, during, and after the. revolution. It's about a Young entrepreneur that has mansion located across the street from a secret real base. He has BBD. There's also an extremist rebel girl, who thinks he is working for the goverment. she learns from her, he learns from him and they part ways. And then they meet years later and develop a relationship.

I'd still rather just see the original direction and style of a director rather than some high budget child-like highlight reel of it. true some of these hollywood -fan-fics- are entertaining but you cant tell me you'd rather watch into darkness over wrath of kahn or any other movie that jj abrams did that fantasies speilberg's s, or just anything that jj abrams did in general because all he does is take inspiration from much better writers and directors and dumbs them down into a spoon fed highbudget hollywood blockbuster.

I like fanfics. Love them to be honest. He's not wrong about fans writing and digging deeper into the stories and lore of movies, books, video games, anime, cartoons and etc.
I personally love reading video game and anime fanfics. Especially crossovers. There is something great about people changing the plot around and doing what ever they want and havingnit makes sense and is amazing to read.

Basically every single book in the SW expanded universe is fanfic. And that saddens me, because they used to be the ones holding the mantle, and now they're reduced in status. Personally I'd do away with the movies, because I would rather have endless series of books rather than a few movies that will go on until 2020 and then stop. Perhaps you can talk about this in the next rant AN.

I think the -official fanfic- stuff being done be Abrahams is both a good and bad thing. It serves as a fantastic story and overall good movie under the star trek banner. But where do we draw the line? Imagine George rr Martin died with no notes on the ending. I don't think another creator could truly come along and finish the saga properly because only Martin truly knows his vision.

I've never read a single piece of fan fiction, I don't even read books that have been rewritten unless it's something like Beowulf where there are different translations but personally hollyhood has been going down hill because all of the good writers have been going to tv. And I read the sample given by Amazon and said Hell no.

How and why the hell did you have this book in hardcover? Its not exactly something you'd pay the extra green for. I doubt that it will be hailed as a work of genius in future decades, hell when the apocalypse comes around they at least have fuel for fire(because you can't burn kindles)
