The Harry Potter prequel, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, finds Eddie Redmayne performing a mating ritual in front of a massive computer-generated beast. Using a combination of puppets and CGI, a slew of effects houses were able to craft convincing monsters to populate J. K. Rowling's imaginative world

Reminder: Newt DOES NOT go to New York (soon) after he gets expelled from Hogwarts. He goes to NY after some years of his expulsion, AND: when he goes to NY, he is currently working for the Ministry of Magic, which indicates he had to have graduated from Hogwarts for that, so, he might have come back to Hogwarts to graduate before working at the Ministry. PLUS: Newt (in the movie) doesn't look like he is seventeen years old at all. But, over all, the work on the movie FX is simply amazing! Great video! :D

Unfortunately still a long way out of Uncanny valley. Been re watching first HP movie and damn, effects were so much more -believable- there.
And that green spill. everywhere. and stitches on green screens, different mattes in one shot. my sincere condolence to keying department.

The voice dubbing on the immigration officer at the beginning is some of the most insulting shit I've ever seen. I don't mean that to be edgy but it literally sounds like they put no reverb on it at all. You can almost hear the soundbooth.

The effects on the animals were shite compared to harry potter. It looks like they were all 100% computer generated, where as, in HP they made real versions of most animals, dragons, buckbeak, snake, goblins etc

I really enjoyed the movie, but this was actually the one scene I couldn't get behind, because why would it be interested in a mating dance with a creature from a different species? Didn't make any sense to me.

this scene was a low point for me. it just felt like filler, and though the cg creatures look good, they still have too much of that essence of cg that make them not realistic enough.

in this day and age, I rather have a thrilling story with interesting characters than -realistic- cgi fest. wasting more money and time on something other than the script smh.
reply

shame that the main character were underdeveloped and the beasts also. many just soulless CGI monsters. except maybe niffler or that tiny groot

I enjoyed it more than any of the Harry Potter movies as I was not pissed off with messing with the books like I was with them.

Question. Why does he take a boat across the ocean instead of apparating or using the floo network?
