-I don-t think the dovetail question was ignorant. There are completely straight dovetails, and then curved ones. There are also different kinds, like through, half-blind, sliding, etc.

Late to this party but red oak is absolutely a wood you can stain. It's not overly expensive either. Poplar is a wood you really don't want to stain, it's more of a paint grade wood.

-if you want to stain, buy cheaper wood- couldn't agree more. If you're gonna stain, you might as well use plastic. Stain is like a Walmart version of woodworking.

Cassel's -Carpentry and Joinery- by Paul N. Hasluck is good book but oldschool.

As far as stain goes, I agree. If you are paying premium for lumber as a trim, highlight the grain, don't hide the color.

I thought Ron was more similar to Rosa Diaz, in which the actor is just acting in this completely different way.
