Beth Kimmerle is an author and taste expert, and she's here to answer the internet's burning questions about all things food, tongues and taste. What does Coca-Cola actually taste like? What makes someone a supertaster? Why does gum only seem to last for 5 minutes? Beth

So if anyone is still curious about blue raspberry, I-ve researched this in depth because I was too some time ago. Beth describes the labs that create the flavors. After the flavor was developed, the industry needed a color to go with it. There are a -lot- of flavors associated with the color red, so they wanted something different. There is one species of wild raspberry that is blackish-blue (I have some in my garden, and the only other major contender for the color blue at the time was blueberry, so they ran with it.

In South Africa our cream soda is green across the different brands but I once tried an imported cream soda that was clear and it just didnt taste the same and about a year ago one of the drink companies came out with blue cream soda and when I tried it it tasted blue and other people who have tried it agree with me it tastes blue now I'm sure I tasted an additional berry flavour in it giving it the -blue- taste but it could just be the colour throwing me off

Does anybody feel like McDonald's and Candy and all the rest of lab-designed foods. they taste good but also don't? Like, the taste Is good but it feels -fake- to the point it's not good anymore After a short while? Maybe it's just my cultural background influencing my taste and my family traditions. but nothing tastes better than a dish with like 5-6 whole foods combined well and cooked with good techinque.

I do have one thing I disagree with. I can't stand Coke or even Dr Pepper because there seems to be something different about their caramel coloring. I drink Barq's Root Beer just fine and I love it and it has caramel flavoring but, for some reason, there's an actual caramel flavor in Coke and Dr Pepper. So, I feel maybe she didn't notice it? Or maybe it's just me? I don't know but it's weird.

You don't have to be a supertaster, just sign up as a consumer taster. :) Sensory Evaluation is a scientific discipline - you add psychology, and statistics to food development, to ensure that the tasting is not biased. The trained panelists for tasting are also 'calibrated' like an instrument - so Love love this! AS a food scientist, it makes my heart sing.

8: 01 Oh, man. I remembered last year lots Indonesians mourned because the tastemaker of the famous Indomie goreng died. Don't know how people knew her name considering instant noodles (and most food products I assume) has tight competition. People just suddenly know, and Nunuk Nuraini has been mourned almost hero like.

how do you know what chicken really tastes like?
maybe chicken meat to me tastes like beef to you. but maybe we will never know.
how does your tongue and brain know the taste of a specific food? does it mean that our bodies already know all the possible taste in the world right after you were born

My best friend loves sour stuff so much that when I introduced her to bulk citric acid, she started putting it in her lemonade all the time. For a while she thought she was getting sick because her throat hurt all the time, but it turns out she had to lay off the citric acid -

This reminds me of an experiment I've done with blindly guessing Skittles flavors. It's much harder than it seems. Bite the skittle in half, guess the flavor. Weirdly, some of the flavors don't make sense until you see the color of what you're eating.

If you use essential oils to try to retrain your sense of smell, and you have pets, please check with your vet. Some essential oils are very dangerous to have around some pets, even if just minute amounts get into the air, depending on species.
