no offense, I get the video is aimed at pop history consumers, not academics, but it is not as simple as alcohol = slow and irrational and caffeine = Fast and Rational, for one most people during the colonial period pretty much up to the 19th century drank VERY weak beer and wine, Im talking about 2-3% alcohol max, just enough to kill the pathogens. That being said, people weren't stumbling around all day, and indeed people still do this in some European cultures. It is anachronistic to claim that coffee sped everything up, especially since the enlightenment was a cause of coffee becoming widely used, coffeehouses being meeting places for enlightenment thinkers, not a result. I love coffee, and enjoyed the sentiment of the video, I just thought I would point out that using coffee to wake up is a learned behavior like any addiction, so people didn't have a problem waking up before they had ever tried caffeine, just like when you were kid and didn't need coffee to be flying off the walls.

Coffee is toxic to your body the government pushed it because they want you to be addicted to it and alcohol so that you don't see the reality of being a wage slave and a test subject of the elite. They want you to be dependent on a substance even though that is completely unatural because it is easier to create a false illusion of things, they say don't drink raw milk in the morning but drink coffee which it produces stress hormones and ages you faster. It causes anxiety and that's somehow a good thing for you. It's a joke

Coffee and tea also affect the body's ability to absorb iron due to their polyphenols binding to the iron you intake - so even if you are eating relatively well, like leafy greens or oats which contain iron, this is going to be negatively impacted by caffeine especially if you are a moderate caffeine consumer. I personally have never noticed an improvement in my energy level due to drinking coffee, but I have noticed that it adversely affects my sleep. Unfortunately I like the taste, so I still have a small cup a day.

This video is made by the people that want us to consume coffee. Coffee is terrible for our health. And while there could be some antioxidants in the green coffee beans, there surely are none in the roasted beans people consume as coffee. High temperature kinda destroys all the benefits. So, no, thanks! If coffee had any benefits, I should have seen them in the 12 years I was addicted to it. I in turn have seen only the negatives.
And no, it-s not only sleep that coffee affects but our health.

The general idea is reasonable imo, but it seems to ignore that segment of the population not living in congregated population centers. It begs a lot of seemingly unrelated questions but the biggest might be the question of when and where because Water neither is nor was always disease ridden - that is primarily a product of ignorant human practices limited to certain times and places. Even today millions of people consume unprocessed ground water without universal lethality as a result.

It's all addict talk. it's just more subtle when you dress it with flowery thoughts about culture and experience. The sleep aspect should be the the most obvious red flag for anyone. If a substance interferes with your sleep, it should be thrown in the trash. And caffeine being a pesticide of the plants, why do you think you are spared of the effect? You're a bigger target in comparison but you also ingest it infinitely more than a bug is in contact with it.

Moderation seems to be the key here. I have historically not consumed much coffee. I do however drink lots of tea (I love tea ok. However, the past few months my coffee consumption skyrocketed (tea consumption went down)- as it was just always available.
The more you drink, the less you enjoy it / the worse you feel.
However, in moderation (say a couple cups a week, a nice cup of coffee is wonderful and contributes to a bright day.

Uhhh people weren't drinking alcohol all the time that's a big misconception. I'm not sure where you're getting your information. People have been boiling water, catching rainwater, and performing basic filtration with sand and charcoal for a long long time. Coffee also is not the only source of caffeine, people have been drinking a variety of caffeinated teas for a very long time.

That's why you consume caffeine responsibly. I drink a Monster energizer (the caffeine in it amounts to the amount of caffeine in 2 cups of coffee) almost everyday and I still sleep good and enters deep sleep and have dreams and whatnot. So just because you consume caffeine doesn't mean your sleep has to be compromised! Consume it smart, is what I'm trying to say.

Simon-
With the American Diet fuelling chronic inflammation and obesity, along with multiple other health conditions, the small amount of antioxidants in caffeine is not enough. With regards to coffee, I would rather be concerned about the over-consumption causing severe GERD due to it-s high acid-forming nature.
