I have a question. In the game we hear a lot about how Illidan went insane after losing to Arthas. When he came back here he didn-t seem any more insane than in W3 or BT or any less. I assume people in the game thought he went insane because he was a FERVENT believer of fighting fire with fire. That-s why in Outland we see very few differences between the Illidari and Legion forces there. Is that why or did he just go insane from frostmourne? As far as I know he-s the only dude to ever survive a hit from it. Was he having troubles with his past life and when he got sliced he -lost- that part of his soul? I mean look at what happened to Uther. Not a stretch. But only problem with that theory is the messages he sent to Tyrande and Malfurion. I mean arthas was only screwed cuz he pulled a Vader 2. 0 and killed the last vestige of his scarred soul making nerzhul the only one.

In my opinion, Legion IS the single best expansion in WoW history. And it would have been THE PERFECT ending to the entire Warcraft franchise. -
Multiple emotional exchanges between historically significant heroes an villains: the entire Burning Legion on assault, Illidan redeemed as a total badass anti-hero, Velen's showdown with Kil'jaedon, Sylvanas actually leading the Horde to a victory united, Anduin gradually overcoming his own doubts and griefs and becoming the valiant true King his father Varian was---and several other arcs concluding in extremely satisfying ways. -
All these done while paying a lot of respect to previous materials, like Illidan holding Guldan's skull just as he did in The Burning Crusade trailer. Everything in this one expansion is executed well.

Playing through Legion, you learn to absolutely DESPISE Gul'dan in a way you didn't before. So to see his reaction to his undoing was extremely satisfying to me. He spent the whole expansion being a smug, cruel villain who seems impossible to shake from his pedestal no matter what you do. And there he is, full-disbelief and horror on his face before Illidan shows up. And just the fact that Illidan doesn't even bother to taunt him, as other comments pointed out, just makes it so much more vindicating.
Now that Shadowlands re-jigged the levelling run, I'm looking forward to playing through this whole thing with at least one character. It's gonna be amazing.

The Gul'dan defeat cinematic is totally different from Sylvanas defeat, and I'm not talking about what happens in them.
In this one, people felt the epicness of it, and how it was going to drive the expansion further, but in the cinematic from 9. 1, most people felt disappointed, didn't understand what happened and no one knows what will happen next.
Man, I miss being amazed every patch of Legion

After WoD Gul'dan was so close to break his ties with the Burning Legion to become his own person and later god to exact his vengeance on those who ruined his plans (much like his original version. However he realised that on his own he is doomed on a world full of countless heroes, without the legion's protection, so he rejoined his masters. but even they were not enough to save him.

Dunno just feel like Illidan gave Varian some justice. He smoked Guldans ass like nothing, probably would have even if he wasn't beaten before. Just some other raw power to Illidan that I think many forget. Guldan drew his power from what Illidan was made of more or less. He stood no chance. Never would have. Fkin love this shit,

Notice how there wasn't an inch of cowardice on Varian's way out. Notice how cowardly everything was about Gul'dan on his way out. Who is the leader you want? Varian please. Oh, and Varian lasts far longer than Gul'dan does against even his own fel magic. Varian is one tough guy.

I wonder if we'll see Gul'dan again in the Maw in Shadowlands? On the one hand, the Jailer could use him as one of his minions but on the other hand, Gul'dan would try to doublecross the Jailer and take his job for himself. The two of them deserve each other to be honest.

In case anyone doesn-t know, the skull of Gul-dan is an incredibly powerful legion artifact, one that Illidan used to become the demon he is today. Here, instead of using it-s power for himself, he crushes it with barely a second thought. Character growth.

Maybe a bit extreme, but given the circumstances this cutscene deserved a full blown cinematic. I mean, Illidan killing Gul'dan, the asshole who killed Varian, there's a lot of WoW character history here.

I think even if Gul-dan was prepared the outcome would-ve been the same, however. judging by the look on his face when illidan grabbed him. Gul-dan. was not prepared.

Legion was the last time I got super hyped/invested in the story. The skull of gul-dan in his hand was well done on blizzard-s part.

I love how Illidan uses his wings at the end of the chokehold. THE most satisfying death of a villain from this game in my opinion.

Isn't it strange, whenever a horde warchief dies they're a bad person and whenever an alliance king dies they're a good guy
