And what was the root cause of the 2008 meltdown? If you can still find it watch the 2002 and 2004 Congressional hearings chaired by Rep. Maxine Waters, along with Rep. Barney Frank and senators Chris Dodd and Chuck Schumer, joined by Senator Barrak Obama in 2004, and watch them threaten and coerce the big banks to open up the -American Dream- of home ownership to EVERYONE! and thus the creation of the sub-prime loan fiasco.
There is a history to all of this that dates back to President Jimmy Carter signing an executive order, but without any real direction or motivation for the banks to act. Then President Bill Clinton upped the ante making it possible for the lenders to act and to realize a return. But still, the banks knew better and steered clear of it. Then. comes 2002 and 2004 and Congress intervenes, and President George Bush thinking he was doing something -good- went along with the Democrats in Congress and signed some more executive orders and/or signed into law some bills changing the whole landscape of mortgage -banking. - It included not only incentives but penalties if the banks didn't create sub-prime loans.
The Federal government handed the keys to a bunch of Ferraris and Lamborghinis to a group of car thieves and then acted surprised when the cars were gone, stolen! Duh!
I am in the real estate business, and I remember a meeting I had with one of my bankers, in 2003, and I asked about these -sub-prime- loans I was hearing about. I didn't understand what that meant, I thought they were loans below the Prime Rate. Of course, nope, it just meant crappy mortgage loans to clients who had NO BUSINESS getting the loan. My banker told me the bank would not be making any such loans, too risky. That was 2003 and no banks had taken the bait, yet. That is why Maxine Waters et al hit the banks again in 2004, this time dangling a carrot in front of them.
Not surprisingly, no blame ever attached itself to the good, ole Democrats on that Congressional committee. the same bozos who had the audacity to convene a hearing years later grilling those same bankers, i. e. our -car thieves- mentioned above.

Good list. I have seen 1, 2, and 3, and I can attest that they are all excellent.
Inside Job: It is THE definitive documentary about the topic. Narrated by Matt Damon.
The Big Short: Probably the most educational of the group. Great performances from Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Brad Pitt, Ryan Gosling, and even Melissa Leo in a smaller part, along with cameos from Margot Robbie, Selena Gomez, and the late Anthony Bourdain.
Margin Call: More fictional but giving a sense of the magnitude of the crisis and how it happened. Zachary Quinto was awesome, but also great performances from Paul Bettany, Kevin Spacey, Simon Baker, Demi Moore, Jeremy Irons, and Stanley Tucci.
As for the other two films, I will definitely look into them, as they also look very good.

All the comments trying to decide between Margin Call and The Big Short is like trying to decide which is a 9. 9 and which is a 10. This video has aged well and the list is still the same today. I'm going to come down on Margin Call having the edge, with more tension and better acting. The Big Short was amazing in its ambition and brilliantly executed and comes a hairbreadth behind.
99 Homes looks like an amazing movie too but a bit too depressing way to start the year. I'll watch it but not yet.
Phillip.

All of them are complete BS written by Commie/Fascist Hollyweird leftwits desperate to blame anyone but themselves. The Financial crash of 2008 was caused by the Community Reinvestment Acts of 1977 and 1996. A corrupt Marxi9st run Govt forced Banks to give loans to people they knew couldn't afford them then took that bad debt and monetized it, like a true Commie would. The goal of this crash is the Cloward-Piven strategies. Youre simply vending leftwing propaganda like any Nahtzee in Germany in 1933 would have.

I never watched 4 and 5 ( Never heard of them but they look good ) #3 I thought fell short, it was not a well put together movie. I really Liked THE BIG SHORT and personally think it should be maybe #1 but #2 is okay. #1 was a great eye opener and depressing knowing NOTHING HAS CHANGED and worse yet the DEMOCRATS have taken a page out of their play book and are perpetrating FRAUD on the American People to this day. I will check out #4 and #5 they look good.

Amazing video, A friend of mine referred me to a financial adviser sometime ago and we got talking about investment and money. I started investing with $120k and in the first 2 months, my portfolio was reading $274, 800. Crazy right, I decided to reinvest my profit and gets more interesting. For over a year we have been working together making consistent profit just bought my second home 2 weeks ago and care for my family.

I thought too big to fail was poorly written, from a dialogue perspective, since the plot was already set, and it was not well acted or directed. If they said -make the call- one more time, it would have been absurd. Not intelligently written.
I think the two best informationally are The Inside Job, followed by The Big Short. I didn't see 99 Homes, but it looks like an emotional drama.

Great list of Movies. but nothing is more stunning than the reality of all this. The same politicians, bankers and insurance cos are all operating today. while middle America lost everything they had the golden parachute to save themselves. and we're now all teed up to do pretty much the same thing. I guess the late great Bob Marley said it best. Don't know ya past don't know ya futchahhh.

What was that they said? -The banks defrauded the American people? - Wasn't the American people borrowed money to buy homes even though they couldn't afford them? I know many realtors had at least 7 houses. I know a pizza delivery guy bought a house. The true story I know and I believe was that the banks were sold mortgages that they thought were from very qualified borrowers.

Buying a stock is easy, but buying the right stock without a time-tested strategy is incredibly hard. Hence what are the best stocks to buy now or put on a watchlist? I-ve been trying to grow my portfolio of $260K for sometime now, my major challenge is not knowing the best entry and exit strategies. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions.

#5 In 2008 a lot of people lost a lot of things and these people actually made a movie about it and the American people will just go in a circle like they gave you so much entertainment that when you get shocked, it doesn-t hit that much

Three are outstanding; I requested all five, for new information and reminders. Thank you. Going forward, the question is -How soon will something similar occur and you will have additions to the list? - My guess is soon.

Both Wall Streets, Wolf of Wall Street, Margin Call, and Equities out of the one's I have seen. I think I saw Too Big to Fail or one like it about Lehman Brothers. Also good. Oh and The Boiler Room!

Remarkable how different the trailers are from movies. Scenes that are several minutes apart cut together like footage of a reality TV show to show reaction and conflict where none exists.

Sometimes I really wonder how people make huge profit investing in the stock market, I know investing is a legitimate way to gain financial freedom but how is it done?

The most irony thing about the Big Short i think is that, the director was from Comedy background, and he successfully to articulate the a sub-prime mortgage drama

The Big Short #1, Margin Call #2 without a doubt. The documentary is full of politicos and liars blaming others with cute editing and cherry picking.

All of the above. However, this could be expanded to a Top 10 list very easily.
(Not the David Letterman kind of -Top 10- you know what I mean)

Ok, 99 Homes seems a bit dramatic, but the other's look great. Big Short was amazing, it'll be hard to top the mix of comedy, horror and docustyle.

Wonder if they-re going to make a film version of Lewis- first book, -Liar-s Poker-. Would be a fantastic bookend to -The Big Short-

When I see -margin call- in the list thus list is legit. -The big short- is really too theatrical, bit exaggerated, the book is better.

Andrew Garfield at times and in certain lights reminds me a little bit of actor Anthony Perkins of Hitchcock's Psycho.
