I know it's only movies released after 2000, but I have to say that, in my opinion, of course, the most recent versions of Little Women and Emma, although very well made and faithful to the era, especially when it comes to costumes, don't come close to the 1990's versions. I think my favorite one on the list is A Little Chaos. Belle and The Dutchess are perfect too.

What -terrible, terrible- narration by the female voice throughout! She mispronounced so many words, that one is compelled to ask if she has studied any English literature at all. If -Far from the Madd-ening- Crowd- was a venial sin, then -Bront- instead of -Bronte- was unforgiveable.
reply

The narrator needs to learn how to pronounce certain words and names please. For example: It's Far From the MADDING Crowd (not Maddening. Devonshire is pronounced Devon-share. Bronte is pronounced Brontie. Jane Eyre is pronounced Jane Ere. There were others, but these ones stood out.

Looking for a regency era movie where a rich man offers to marry the heroine and she rejects him, only to loose her main love interest and eventually marry him in the end. I remember the man's aunt being the one pestering her to accept since she was impoverished

Though I appreciate your list, I disagree with the No. 1 choice. I certainly do not consider that remake as the best. In truth, I prefer the earlier version. I've not seen Bright Star and a couple of others. Yet, upon your suggestion, I full intend to. Ergo I thank you.

I love drama movies spastically when they are good plaid with very good actors and actresses, then if it is near or true story is even better, by the way from this ten you mentioned I have seen seven some of them twice. put more in Netflix PLEASE, thank you

So glad they included Becoming Jane in this list! Such a credit to the amazing actors in that movie that it was still so good despite not having the outcome/ending we'd want! Also - Kiera Knightly and James McAvoy were made for these romantic period movies!

Would like to add the Anna Karenina (2013) with Santiago Cabrera & Vittoria Puccini. I actually liked it more than Keira's. Even though Keira is one of my favorite actresses. It might be Santiago. He just does it for me!

When I was younger I love Pride and Prejudice, but now Iam hooked with Emma Woodhouse and Mr. Knightley. I love Jane Austen works. my favorite writer. I am excited for Persuasion played by Dakota this July.
reply

the way Pride & Prejudice (2005) is on #1 and it's been my first and fav period romance movie, the way the night I watched it for the first time, I rewatched it three times, on the same night, yes.
reply

I have to say it, though many would not agree with me. I think this Pride and Prejudice was the worst version of that movie. Sense and Sensibility and Persuasion were not on this list, both movies I loved.
reply

Sorry, not top ten. Pride and prejudice, both versions.
Jame eyre
Wuthering heights
Anything, Jane austen
North and South
Under the greenwood tree.
Also period drama series:

I prefer the 1990 pride and prejudice that one gives you a more advanced way of what it was like back then and it shows you a better representation of the sisters relationship
reply

I have watched 8 out 10 movies that were mentioned and i agree that they all deserve to be in the top 10, but Age Of Innocence, which isn-t mentioned here, is to be in my top 5.
reply

Anne Hathaway and Becoming Jane just pales. Sense & Sensibility with Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet are far superior and should not have been eliminated.
reply

I don't like Keira Knightley playing period movies something about her face is weird. And I hate that she plays in so many of those movies.
reply

If you are going to narrate videos, you need to learn how to pronounce actors' and authors' names. The number of errors was distracting.
reply

Can NOT BELIEVE that Sense & Sensibility is not even an honorable mention! It-s my favorite and an Academy Award winner for screenplay!
reply

Ngl, i watched pride & prejudice in high school. And now i can still watch it few times in a month. It-s impossible to move on from it -
reply

Well, it should have been the 1944 version of Jayne Eyre on this list. Also, how can you not have Wuthering Heights (1939!
reply

-North and South- with Richard Armitage. -
-Persuasion with Rupert Penry-Jones.
-Pride and Prejudice- with Colin Firth.
