What a fascinating list of films that provides a glimpse into ancient Egyptian civilization. The Mummy films are always fun adventure rides set in such an exotic time and place. It was interesting to learn about some of the less mainstream but still visually stunning epics like Exodus: Gods and Kings. You've compiled an excellent selection here spanning different genres that effectively bring this ancient world to life on screen. Videos like this one are great for discovering new movies to fuel my curiosity about ancient Egypt. Thanks for sharing!

The Egyptian 1954. No one has ever seen it, but it's a beautiful movie with a most original story. A poor young boy grows up to be a physician to the Pharoah and is seduced and destroyed by a beautiful woman. His destruction leads to the destruction of the Pharaoh. It's a great story beautifully filmed and set. Jene Tierny, Michale Wilding, Victor Mature and many more Hollywood legends.

My favourite by far is the 1995 TV movie Joseph with Paul Mercurio (Strictly Ballroom) and Ben Kingsley. A very underrated film, and very emotional. I love the Ten Commandments (1956) - a brilliant film. I also love the Mummy and The Mummy Returns, even though they are fantasy based.

Exodus with Christian Bale is a very historically inaccurate movie, and Cleopatra was so exqiusite, just like Elizabeth Taylor, and The Mummy with Brendon Fraser was such an entertaining story that can be watched over and over again, BUT Agora is an an Egyptian story, it was in Greece.

The exodus is found to be fiction. Moses did not grow up with ramses the second.
There is a whole series on the this. Ramses the second was a warrior king who also signed the first peace treaty in the world. He was away warring most of his reigning years.

I wish there was a movie epic about the exploration of the pyramids. And how they are virtually being held hostage by the Egyptian government from being discovered further. We're on a doorstep of new findings, but that door is virtually being locked.

Where on your list is the masterpiece -Pharoah- 1966 Kawalerowicz movie?
It's on the Martin Scorsese list of the best masterpieces of all time.
Incredible motion picture. And you have blockbusters like mummy on your list?

Ten commandments seems to be the best as far as costumes and erecting the obelisk was probably how it was done. Somebody did some research on that movie. Cleopatra was done ok, but probably over the top on the parade into Rome.

its just said that these movies are making it seem like no brown people existed, in actual reality they did not exist at those times, everything is so whitewashed it makes it hard for me to even watch these movies anymore

Another vote for -Land of the Pharaohs- a very intelligent film directed by Howard Hawks. A splendid performance by Jack Hawkins. Joan Collins camps it up and Dewy Martin is hunky and sincere.

The only ones I've seen are -Cleopatra, - -The Mummy- and -Ten Commandments. - The -Exodus: Gods and Kings- looks like way too much cheesy CGI and ridiculous -2012- type action sequences.

The Exodus movie is terrible and non-historic and non-scriptural. It was a PC Hollywood movie attempt to sanitize a historic and religious event.

Cleopatra is in another level. Liz Taylor never looked more beautiful. An amazingly beautiful movie to see, with no CGI. Top 3 all time for me.

The best film on Ancient Egypt is beyond any doubt -Pharaoh- by Jerzy Kawalerowicz, all others are merely glitzy fables for the adult kids.

I absolutely agree with the #1 spot. The Ten Commandments was the most iconic of all movie history no one can deny that.

Never saw Cleopatra. I rather not.
If they redo the movie and make it more ethnically correct, I'd watch it.
