-If Beale Street could talk- was disappointing. The movies pace was awkward. I do want to check the book out but the movie came off too much like a book where I felt like I was missing a chunk and not getting some of it since the directing had too much detail too random things in the movie. There was just no build up and came off very flat. I loved the actors and actresses just the directing seemed bad. It should have gotten rid of the narrating I think that's what threw the whole movie off for me.

Black oriented romance movies here in the U. S. A. don't have enough passion compared to the black oriented movies in Africa. Don't get me wrong, there are some African American romantic movies I think had more passion. Such movies as the Blaxploitation classics Melinda and The Black Godfather. Movies that came out in The 90s such as Boys N The Hood and Sprung. Modern day movies such as The Gospel and Diary Of A Mad Black Woman.

Those movies were not as romantic as Love Jones, Love and Basketball, Best Man, Just Wright, & Hitch. I don't know if you have ever been pulled over or chased by the cops but it is not romantic even though Queen & Slim was a great movie

Love always is another excellent movie. it's about an artist who meets up with a up and comming female black lawyer they both on the come up but once they do does one sacrifice their dreams for the sake of their love. great movie

I definitely don't agree with this list. I haven't seen a couple of these movies. A couple of these movies don't really qualify as romantic movies. Queen and Slim was more about racism and betrayal than romance.
reply

None of these movies makes the list of romantic movies for black people. None of these are classics except Comimg to America and that was more of a comedy than romance. Yea this list isn-t it lol

number one being waves is craaaaazy. its not a black romance film. he was so toxic omg. familial love. okay. but romantic? no. you guys should've had Sylvie's love or love and basketball.

Haven-t seen beyond the waves but apart from if beale street could talk I wouldn-t say the other films are that great or particularly extraordinary love stories --

So this is a new school list. I feel so sad that I'm so old now. I have to live in a world where Brown Sugar isnt mentioned on a list like this. #tragic

For Love Of Ivy; Nothing But A Man; Stormy Weather. With all due respect, one must never disregard the films from the older generations.

Queen and slim broke my heart so much as a black person The injustice we face every day was shown in this movie (power to the people)

How could you bring coming to America as no. 4 that thing is incomparable in black drama romance movies. It's a legendary.

So the new generation could discover Sidney Poitier, I am recommending -A Warm December-. Warning: It could be a tear jerker.

Claudine is number one in my book. Love and Basketball is next. Jason's Lyric, Sparkle and Sylvie's Love.
