French and American cheese lovers share cheese from their countries! spizzardo: I was in Aachen (Germany) cycle touring. First day in Germany, immerse in the culture. Went to a delicatessen and, because I've never really heard of, or tried, German cheese. She offered me Gouda, nope, Dutch, Edam, Dutch again, Emmental, Swiss. She thought about and then realised, (and looked surprised actually) there were none. All the cheeses I the delicatessen were foreign, or foreign in origin. Anybody know any German cheeses?

the French cheeses are actually french. the american ones come from other countries I'm quite curious about one thing, are there french cheeses that are more like Parmigiano Reggiano or Grana Padano? with an harder texture? and on the other hand, very fresh ones like ricotta or Certosa? I'm truly curious, since it's not easy to find particular products from abroad in Italy

There are SO many beautiful creameries in the United States, and artisan cheese is not hard to find. It's annoying to watch videos where people compare the most generic store brand products to artisanal foreign goods. You totally lost me at Colby is a little stronger. Colby tastes like nothing. Give me a Detroit Street Brick from Zingermman's.

I highly doubt that your camembert is a real one. The color is to white. A real camembert is made with raw milk. Along with brie. Which taste very very different. But i think raw milk produced are not allowed in america. I may be wrong. But every times i got there i was never able to find raw milk french cheese even in french grocery.

Camembert. Best cheese. I'm English, I'd be considered traitor for saying that. Camembert on a crusty, still warm baguette! Travelling through France, that's almost what I live on. And not dissatisfied with that diet.

I can NEVER eat cheese by itself. Bread or meat! Maybe its a black thing I just never got how people could just eat cheese like that. Also I can never get past the smell for certain cheeses

Let's compare the best of France with some mediocre American made cheese. I was born in Milwaukee. Bring out the Limburger and other Great cheeses from Wisconsin.

Kraft singles (The square Plastic cheese) is FREKING crap, Ive always hated them And I continue to with a passion (This is from an American)

American cheese isn't real cheese. They have to put processed cheese product on the label because there's less than 50% of real cheese in there.

Dear americans, sorry to say but you have nothing. Stop stealing stuff from other countries and call the american. Just be creative.
