Drama teachers recall their most bizarre stories. MangaCEI: Its not funny, but I took drama back in High School. We had to do Monologues for our Mid Finals, and I had the scene from Steel Magnolia where the mother is morning her daughter and screaming I just want to hit someone! The day before Im suppose to take my turn on stage, my step father passed away. It was awful. I went to school because I had to take all these Mid Finals. Imagine me, up on stage, just lost my dad, and Im yelling Why couldnt it be me? Im suppose to go first! I just want to hit some body! I was a sobbing mess. I ended up running off the stage and crying my eyes out in the green room.

My senior year of high school (2 weeks before graduation) we were doing a dinner theater show with all the choir kids and guess who just so happened to fall off the platform we were using as a stage during curtain call? Me. I got such a badly sprained ankle that I couldn't walk on it for 2 weeks (aka was using a knee scooter and wore a splint) which meant I didn't know if I was going to ACTUALLY be walking for my own graduation. Luckily my mom found me a boot I could use but maaaaan was I mad at my clumsy self for not checking my footing

I'm in theatre and we had a ladder that lead up backstage and down a staircase on stage and we were lined up during a rehearsal to go out and this girl just falls like a rag doll off the ladder and me and another girl caught her. She proceeded to have a seizure and when she woke up she couldn't move so we carried her to the teacher and he was like what happened and shes like I just fell. (When people have seizure sometimes they forget what happened) and so she proceeded to keep performing. I was really mad.
THE SHOW MUST GO ON

Haven't watched the video yet, but I guarantee I have a worse story!
One show: child falls off 12' platform, bounce off pad and right into the stage, several people get stabbed for real by fencing blades, the lead bad guy broke his ribs by falling off three stage right before opening, and the artistic director got actually stabbed, with a real (rusty) dagger, in the gut. but played his death so well, no one noticed until he asked to be taken to hospital, after his scene ended.

Fellow drama teacher,
I have chairs in my classroom that have little holes in them. I always tell the kids, dont stick your fingers in them well. guess what happened. Not only did she get stuck, she got so stuck but was trying not to draw attention cause she knew she would get in trouble. Finally she admitted what had happened but in her effort to get free had gotten so stuck that NOTHING would get her out.
I had to call the firefighters to come and free her

Not to be rude but the first two aren't really horror stories? I've been in shows where things like this and even things worse than this have happened. Things like that aren't horror stories, they're just the kind of inconveniences that often occur before performances.

I worked at the same group of summer camps that Tommy worked at (yelled when I saw him, he's an absolute star) and can confirm that there's multiple kids just like Johnny at the girls camp who try to go watch the other shows when they're in ensemble/a lead role

One time I was in a show and it was the Jungle Book. It was Tech week and the last night before opening night. The main character literally blanked on all of his lines and rehearsal lasted till 1: 30. It was scheduled to end at 10: 30.

I wish I had these as drama teachers.
Im doing Mary Poppins as an ensemble (that means in a sweep, costumer, park stroller, etc) and I hate my drama teacher. Shes sweet but I feel like Im judged hard by her.

See not gonna lie I got kinda confused their more like drama counselors. Like when I think of drama teachers I think of the high school theater department teacher teaching play work and stage work.
