Sci-Fi Short Film: Flyby - DUST Interesting. In 5 days, I turn 70. I dont agree with the cabdrivers recommendation to just live every moment. Isnt that what we are all doing, relatively Some philosopher said that mankinds problems stem from the fact we never ask the big questions. After about the age of 15 we all think we already know the answers and we stop asking. And although we think we are being autonomous, we just take our cues as to what we should do from the what everyone else is doing. One of the advantages of getting older is that, if you can retire, now you have the time to search out the answers to the big questions. While there is still time.

Thought provoking. I am seventy and enjoy aging. This theme works with my theory of life and death and what comes in between. There has been a song playing since the beginning of all living things. When we are born a conscious entity, it is a wonderful thing to be part of that song. Be part of the song. Add your voice and music to the song. When you die, you do not get to hear the next note.

Consciousness is like the tips of the waves on a storm-tossed ocean. When young, they may be close together, so it seems time lasts forever. But, if we lose interest, lose focus, and become older, those points of consciousness become farther apart. Thus time seems to be passing faster.
-- This is from the theory of quantum consciousness, for example as offered by Sir Roger Penrose.

I have watched a hundred of these things. Few actually own the elements of a good story. This is one of them. Most of them lack the same thing. Resolution. Great writing. Well thought out and constructed. Clearly defined story with embedded not so clear though visible undertones of a message about the passage of time and the fact that you only live once.
Well done.

Wait a minute! The guy has a wedding ring on, and he offers to share a cab with a woman he just met, then proceeds to bed her Guess he deserves to wake up to a fully pregnant woman, and come downstairs to a brand new toddler. That's why I don't do one-night-stands anymore. : )

This is what a traumatic brain injury is like. I've had a major stroke, and I've forgotten huge chunks of my daughter's childhood. She's my one and only, and it breaks my heart that I can't remember so much of those years. I would have rather lost a leg.

From everyone on the FLYBY team, we would like to thank you for supporting our film. For many of us this past year has been a strange reality, and like in FLYBY our perceptions of time have been flipped on its head.
Blink and you might miss it.

That was intense. Intensely sad. A great story that gonna have me tracking asteroids for the rest of my days on Earth. And a clever metaphor, too, if it was meant to be one. It must have been. Am I confused Jeez, is it happening now!
reply

Well done.
Hits home as a 62-year-old with 2 grown children.
It is all temporary. Time as an adult does seem to pass more quickly. You won't remember the details. But the important things will be remembered.

This was one of the best shorts I've seen on DUST. Reminiscent of The Notebook. This as a full-length movie, with time to become invested in the characters, would certainly be one to get the tears going.

This story is so much deeper than this. For people who have suffered from strokes, seizures, Alzheimer's, this is a pretty accurate description of the confusion they experience all day - every day.

woow, amazing. i, m sitting here and my tears runs running down my cheaks. i feel me somesthing exactly how his story was. thanks for bring me some, thinking lost, memories back.

Concerning the conversation in the bar. Physics dictates the faster you move the slower relative time passes. Hence when you get old and slow time seems to go by in a flash.

A wonderful small film. Covers all the emotional essentials in record time and gives us something to think about, talk about and definitely explore. Good job!

Hey dust what was that short film you made of the asteroid impact it flew over the horizon and had these 2 kids in a Van watching it I forgot what it was called.
reply

well we know a little of how gravity effects time where previously time was considered a constant, it really makes math und pyhsics a lot harder. danke for post
reply

the best part of all the movie in my opinion
When Bill realized at the end that he was never affected by the asteroid, he was just living his life.

reply

It reminds me of how people with the onset of Alzheimer's or dementia may experience the world. The compressed or lost time and fractured incomplete memories.

The arrogant, disrespectful youth think they will always be young. One day they will wake up and HA, they're 60 years old, wondering what happened.
reply

I think we can have empathy for him because as we get older we all feel our lives are moving too fast and that's without a time displacing meteor

I am 46 and I still fell like I am a high school student running around playing with my friends in the school yard.
Feels like yesterday.

reply

WHOOOOOSH!
Shit, what was that
That was your life mate.
At least the holographs are not sepia colored.

reply

3 F's and I am out. I don't associate with people who talk like that in real life and it added zero to the story
reply

Thanks to filmmakers who are making such films. This is so relatable. The way the times flies by is so saddening.
reply

As they say. It's not the years, it's the miles.
Add to that. When you travel that fast, you really don't see that much.

reply

Potty mouth. Not good. Movie good. Don’t know why people think they have to talk like that.
Just saying

reply

Wow that was so good 2 reply I’m 87 years best one I have ever seen thank you so much you did so well
reply

That is literally how life feels time wise - no asteroid needed. Extremely well made film in only 13 minutes.
reply

What would you do if you found out there was a Karen in your future
Well done movie crew. Well done.

reply

it's about how fast time is for us mortals. Blink, go to sleep, work too hard, then it's gone.
reply

Yeah, as a 61-year old man. I concur IT GOES BY WAY TOO FAST. That being said, THIS is REALLY fast!
reply

amazing. I wonder if that means he gets to do it all again but slower in real time.
reply

Powerful. I know his pain, my wife died aged 36, and I never meet anyone else to match her.
