Watch the DUST channel for our complete sci-fi library, feature films, and more Excellent story, and what not. but the physics/logic kinda went all over the place. But I still really liked this one enough to look over them. Ok, so the gravity from the black hole messed up her ship. but then suddenly, maybe its not a black hole, but a wormhole I know we dont know squat about blackholes/wormholes. but from what we do, her statements dont make sense. Also the whole she stayed the same age, he aged old - but the radio waves were just on some short delay That was kind of silly as well. The physics in the world youve built didnt make sense in this one.
BUT, as I said, i can overlook those. Acting and set were great. As well as special effects, and what not. Id deffo watch a full-length movie about this.
Thanks!

Oh my! Was a professional soldier in my prime and 40 years later that fear of being out of reach slashed through the shriek that resides somewhere inside my brain and engulfed me as I watched this. Have been a follower of Dust for some time. This is, I think the most visceral experience to date.
This hit with the force of The Cold Equations by Tom Godwin when I read it in an anthology of Sci-fi that scored me 3 credit hours towards my BA (class of 1977. Still have those volumes. Well done to all concerned. Bravo!

Hi William. This is one of the best films Dust has ever made. Stellar acting. Great story. Heart wrenching story. Being caught in the Gravity Well of a black hole would be nightmarish. Loved the humor and cursing. I knew right away when the guy said he didn't know what Jupiter is. Wormhole is the only possibility. That's how the grey's get here.
Never seen her. Keep her. Give her more acting roles. Pay her well. She's wonderful. Can't wait for the next.
PLEASE make a Part II of this. Cheers!

Wow! One of the best DUST films I've seen. Most of these films have a canned feeling but not this one. I love the simplicity of the story and how it's about very human fears and the two characters' relationship. The acting was beautifully done; it's always the little details in expressions or tone that I find touching. It was smart to put in the little differences in cultural details that lead into Kaya figuring out a potential solution.

If she were circling a black hole, the spacetime dilation would be such that her signal would appear to be stretched out to the point where it's unlikely any radio would detect it - the electromagnetic waves would be so distended as to be far below radio frequency. Moreover, the signal delay would be non-trivial. It's a shame sci-fi relies so much on cowboys-in-space and lacks the sci part of the fi.

Really enjoyed this one! A lot of these Dust shorts leave me wishing for more. a longer movie, or a tv series. On the one hand, that's a good thing. On the other hand, one could argue that it's a slight failure in the artform of the short film. THIS one, however, was a perfect short. It was utterly compelling from start to finish, and yet felt complete. Well done by cast and crew.

Wow! Great film. As much as a movie could be based on this, it would. ruin it. The short format keeps the story tight. If Hollywood set out to make this same film in the same length with the best director and maybe Sandra Bullock as the lead, it would be no better than this film. My hats off to you and everyone involved in this film.

One of the better films on DUST, and the ending was moving and meaningful, however, I keep watching these hoping to find one with an ending that is a bit more happy and upbeat, but there seem to be very few such made by DUST and most are depressing downers.

This Dust Short Stories are better than any hollywood 120min movie.
Awesome, top, together with Sand Castle and any other Dust short Sci-Fi.
Dust is worth every cent and second that would be wasted watching Hollywood blockbusters.

Hey all! Director William Hellmuth here. I love reading all your comments and thoughts about the film! Feel free to respond to this comment with any questions you have for me. I'd love to talk shop!

True masterpiece. I would not change a thing. Does not need a sequel, full storyline in less then 20min, good acting, scenes, cameras. everything. Very well done Sir Will! Thank you

For a minute there I actually thought it was going to have a happy ending but it is a Dust feature after all soooo. no chance of that. Its actually one of the most heartbreaking

If there was a golden like button, I'd smash it for this short. Only 18 minutes, I thought 50 minutes had gone by! AMAZING in every aspect. NEED MORE NOW please and thank you.

Very interesting concept! Black hole actually a worm hole, and successful transit to an alternate universe. Loved it! Just wish they could have met up in the end.

Watched it again and again, man, best 19min. so emotional and clever story.
Great actors, man this is lovely. don't forget about me, i never forgot about you.

After 2nd viewing - it is a plot different from most sci fi these days, namely cops and robbers or monsters. That is why I like it. It shows imagination.
reply

Brilliantly done, illustrates the heart it takes to continue after bitter disappointment and give back/keep on. And no ship designs to critique!

Wow! Bravo to everyone who created this. Time was irrelevant to this complete story. I hope you appreciate why I said that. Thank you.

Wow! That almost brought me to tears! What a story! Amazing acting! Wow. I really wanted the fairy tale ending. but sadly, reality awaits.

Too much feelings. normally I'm ok with that, but right now it's just too much. Which probably means you all did a great job. Ugh.

This is not exactly about this short but all Dust shorts. It seems that most astronauts are women in many of the shorts Interesting!

At 9: 56, Hammer looks to be in his 30s. at 15: 37, he looks like he's in his 60s-70s. So what, 20-30 years passed for him

The acting was top notch. Made you forget the fact that inside the spaceship there is no gravity.
