I found myself explaining why Flightsimulator 2020 is so good compared to its predecessors, in I think the best way for non-players.
In former versions, you had to rely mainly on your instruments to land. Visuals were fine but not detailed enough to make a visual only landing.
In FS2020, you can judge by the details of grass and rocks near the runway, if you're about to touch down on the runway.
That is the greatest achievement of the latest incarnation, in my opinion.
Note, I'm not a Microsoft fanboy.
There are some weird things that may happen if you're not executing your landing correctly.
Especially with the small single engine prop planes that are generally underpowered.
Sometimes, when I bounce back up, I find that the aircraft will remain airborne even when going at impossibly low speeds as 20-30 knots!
And that's in a Cessna 172 Skyhaw (G1000. One time, I glided all the way to the end of the runway, below stall speed, then it even nose-upped then crashed.

Version 5. 0 amazed me in particular in its graphics. I'll remind you that this game's contemporaties included Doom, the original Star Fox, and other 3D and 2. 5D games that mostly looked much worse. This game looks something like 5 years ahead of its time
Also, the 80s versions are commendable. What other 3D games existed at the time? At all?

What a joke! Dude, your video is not accurate. 1979, SUBLOGIC released flight simulator 1. 1983, SUBLOGIC released flight simulator 2. Meanwhile, while Billy boy Gates wasn-t busy on pleasure island, he was busy copying software, the SUBLOGIC flight sim was ported over to Microsoft. Just thought I-d point that out.

+VR for 2020. I will not fly on flat screen again. The funny part is the cost of the computers to run them went considerably down. Around 1987 a Compaq 386 cost around $5000 + the monitor and everything else. They even charged extra for the 387 math co-processor to crunch numbers.

Version 5. 1 is missing from this video? Anyway, in my opinion Flight Simulator 5. 0 was the greatest leap in evolution by far with its textured high res graphics. I played it a lot back in the day, unlike the previous versions which were quite ugly to be honest.

Can someone know old open world that can use space ship, land on ground, and that game have a huge spaceship that we go and explore, and a island that be can land and explore with foot or vehicles

My question is: Was the old versions, FS 1. 0 and 2. 0 really so jerky? It's more a diashow then playing an game. It'll be around 5 fps (just estimated. Or was this normal for such games? :-D

The jump from 4. 0 to 5. 0 and from 2004 to X are incredible. I remember seeing the cockpit in FSX at max graphics and thinking the texture resolution was insane. It ran at 2 fps on my 9300 GE.

Lord how I remember MS flight sim 1984. Putting in the floppy disk. I could play for hours. I can still here the sound coming from the CPU speaker. Thanks for the video (Lafayette, LA)

I briefly played msft 1. 0 back in the early 80s at my dad's work and msft 3. 0 on a Compaq portable 3 back in 1988. Although it had an amber screen it was still fun as heck!

I first started with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2000. I always wanted to try the game before then but never had the computer for it.
I've been a devoted fan ever since!

In 2040, your gonna be flying a Ryanair plane over your house on the sim, you hear something outside so check FlightRadar24 and see a Ryanair plane flying over you

Amazing how technology progresses. If the whole world stops fighting each other and learn to work together, our technology will be twice the advancement.

Imagine when MS Flight Sim 2020 looks as ancient as MS Flight Sim 1 or 2 does to us now. It'd have to be completely indistinguishable from real life in VR
reply

I always imagine what if people from the past woke up miraculously in our time to see all this technology! They-d think it is some sort of witch craft!

I love that these games don't come out very often, and the improvement is always quite noticeable. I wonder what the next MSFS will look like

Fun fact: 16 year old colton harris moore was on the run from the fbi and learned how to fly from Microsoft flight simulator in the woods

And here's me thinking that Microsoft Flight Simulator first came out in the early 2000s. I didn't expect that it was from the '80s!
reply

I actually started on one of the original MS Flight Sims on my Apple 2. You had to use your imagination to fill in the blanks.
reply

At least in the 1980's there was crash dynamics unlike the all new MS Flight Simulator thats missing the best feature now.

Man 82 and 88. Wasn't even born but must say those two are looking quite impressive to me with the period of time in mind.

Big thumbs up to this development team for making our dreams come true for those of us who couldn-t afford a PPL or CPL!

At its time. 2004 was great when I got it as a gift. Took a break from 2006/7. Then jumped to 2020. Holy shit lol

The music just reminds me of playing flight simulator on the family computer with my older brother. Good times

Late 90's/2000's kid here, I can only imagine how blown people's minds were when this game first came out.
reply

i'm actually impressed that they had flight sims in 1988 that was in 3D with day&night cycle and a huge map.

To think that this was how we simmed and we were happy. Today, we get pissed off with a micro stutter. -

Bought today for the first time in my life. I think the grandpa of all sim. I think the game changer was '98!
