8 Games That MESSED Up Trying To Be OPEN WORLD DirtGrub: Mirror's Edge is one of my all time favs, but buddy it had more than 1 big problem. Chief amongst them the fact that it constantly slows you down to a (sometimes literal) crawl. Be it through tedious climbs or absolutely dire combat sections. You actually show one of the worst things about it, crawling into vents, on vents etc. Terrible.
Honestly have more bad than good to say about it, but I do genuinely love that game. Catalyst only felt like a let down because the surprise of it being so much fun was gone, but the combat was much better imo, and I like just running around for no reason. Would have been fine as a totally linear experience

I beg to differ on mafia 3 and pop reboot. I get why most would hate one them because of the sudden shift and few other things but I loved those games especially mafia 3. It was an evolution over the formula. it was fun not as fun as the first mafia game but it was fun as hell. pop reboot not for everyone but for me. it had a magestic and gorgeous feeling to it that many games fail to capture in those days and nowadays which made me fall in love with that game in the first place. Good video nonetheless.

I don't understand how people say Mafia 3 is repetitive. I thought shooting and killing was the fun part. They also had varied ways of approaching forts. Would you guys rather be driving around and doing puzzles?
The first two games were so linear it seemed pointless to have an open world. But it made some sense in the third.

I literally played Mafia 3 for 4 years and I loved it. What was consider tedious wasn t for me because I had fun luring guys around the swamp to be killed by a gator and the music is amazing. Definitely worth the play and to forget the tedious parts because you can find fun in them.

I agree with most of the points, but Mafia 3, I don't think it failed from open world. I loved driving around, viewing the city, listening to the music. I just wish the gameplay wasn't so repetitive. Imagine, Mafia 3 mixed with GTA style missions. Be incredible! :D

Andromeda's biggest problem was it's association with the original ME trilogy. Had it been a purely stand-alone IP, without the whole ME hype train behind it, it would probably have performed a lot better. Granted, executive overreach by EA was a big problem too.

Driv3r was great for kids like me, who had parents that wouldn't buy them GTA 3 at release. Easier to convince them that it was just a mature racing game, so it holds a special place in my heart. Also hunting down all the Tony Montana clones was pretty fun.

I stopped playing Mafia 3 after about 10 hours of playing it and realizing that every single area I went to pretty much looked the same and all the enemies were the same and I just deleted it and haven t played it since. And that was on release

About ME Andromeda, first time I played I couldn't play it at all. It was terrible. But a couple years later, I tried it again and it wasn't that bad. I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. When you have fun, you sorta get past the flaws.

The story and characters in Mafia 3 outshine the lackluster open world. If you go into the missions as setups to take down each chain in command its really cool. First mafia game to give you that true feeling of grass roots Mafia Boss.
