You cant even say that marcus was like that because Marcus was a unqiue voice amongst everyone in gears; nobody sounded like him and everything he said was either important witty or interesting, and for the most part he was just talking and it sounded very natural.
The voice actors in this sound like theyre how children sound when theyre pretending to be some kind of awesome super epicly epic secret agent with super secret secrets and nobody else understands what its like to be the hero, like gary stu dialogue
The wahmens also just come off as arrogent
Idk boizzzz- gears is kinda special for its characters, you go play gears 1 and realise how much the characters have a huge role in making that games atmosphere and chemistry
This game just feels very. cold.
Theres no real personality to it, just seems like a product- ffs, theres more personality in the actual gimmicks of gameplay than the characters or story
Suppose you cant be too critical since its a spin off but i say, be critical - this is gears, one of the biggest game franchises in the world, act like you give a damn

The story behind Gatka Ridge is this: in the last year of the Pendulum Wars, Gabe was a Lieutenant Colonel stationed on the island of Vectes, incidentally where Prescott relocated humanity to between the events of Gears 2 and 3 before the Lambent threat forced them off of the island. Vectes is one of the few places on the planet that not even the Locust can get to. Anyway, during a mission on the nearby island of Knifespire, they accidentally uncovered a new Imulsion source. Gabe, his Gears and a group of sailors attempted to take the Imulsion from the UIR in the Battle of Gatka Ridge, but were outnumbered and outgunned. Gabe managed to drop a mountain onto the Imulsion source, burying it and he won the battle, but he lost a lot of people. One such person was his and Oscar's adopted brother Wyatt who died blowing up a UIR fleet while following orders Gabe gave him. Afterwards, Prescott, then just the Deputy Chairman, ordered Gabe to excavate the new Imulsion source even though it would cost a lot of lives to do. Gabe refused and considered resigning, but Colonel Hoffman convinced him to find another option. While fixing his broken chair, Gabe came up with the idea of working on fixing things instead and so demoted himself to Sergeant and Motor Pool. He was probably inspired by an earlier conversation with a sailor who had once worked in Psy-Ops and had undergone a similar change after hating his work.

I fell like I need to clear some things up for those complainers out there. This is not Ukkon's first appearance: he was in the Rise of RAAM comic book series. Also, he's a Sire which makes him technically a precursor to the Locust. The Sires are those creatures at the New Hope Research Facility in Gears of War 2 that awaken after you access Niles' message. I think they're in Gears 5 too. They were all mindless beasts except for Ukkon apparently. And for those pointing out his ability to speak normally, his status as a Sire means that Ukkon used to be human. That's why he can speak like a normal person unlike the other Locust. All of this stuff about the Locust origin story has been canon since Gears 5 and heavily implied since Gears 2. Gears 5 really just filled in all of the blanks left by Gears 2.

Not gonna lie. As a gears fan this was rough. The writing and the plot was brain dead at best and retold old stories in 4 and 5. The game rips off Xcom but it's not as good as Xcom. I did like their change to the overwatch system though. I don't know why they added token characters like Mikayla when they could have put in Oscar, Dizzy, or anyone else that was more interesting. We already have Del as a token with no backstory whatsoever. Sid is discount Tychus from Starcraft 2. The voice actor for Gabe didn't give a shit for most of his lines or their audio mixing was bad. All the villain was guilty of was existing. Lot of motivation to track him down and murder him in cold blood.

Does anyone else find it weird that the apocalypse takes place at the start when the hammers wipe out most human civilisation and the gears squad you control seems completely chilled about it after and barely even mention it?
It's just like -well the hammers just killed most of humanity and it doesn't even seem to have worked in stopping the locusts, oh well life goes on I guess-
I just find it jarring

I don't blame Gabe for walking away from the war with the locust after what they discovered about New Hope and what Prescott just pulled. The only thing I wish he did was to give us all heads up about New Hope instead of waiting years for Prescott to declassified the file and losing a lot a people in the process.

I like that Gears is branching out I fell like this will be what Halo Wars is to Halo. But god damn do I wish this story was a shooter I've wanted a Gears game set in the early days of the Locust war I know Judgement was that and I really enjoyed that game play but the story felt like a second thought.

According to Hoffman in Gears of War: Bloodlines, people reported sightings of Gabe for years after the game and Hoffman kept an eye out for him. He was unaware that Gabe had ultimately died of Rustlung about a decade before Gears of War 4.

I think they should do a Locust chapter where you got to play as a Locust and see how the Lambent war started which showed events leading to E-Day. Dlc or full game it-d still be cool to play. Like if you agree

He wasn-t some carefree tyrant, he was a figurehead who told kept telling himself some things must be done no matter how terrible it is.

I would of played this if it was kept it as a normal gears game. The turn base took me out of it. But that's just my opinion. Keep the weapon and armour Customization in the game tho.

I prefer to just watch the cutscenes. The story was good but gameplay was aweful, the worst I think. Gears wasn't made to be a top view camera franchise in my opinion
