Friday 101 Holiday Gift Ideas, Part 2: Motorized Pan Head + Jib/Crane
video description
Also - for anyone who uses a video camera (no offense DSLR users, that single-arm crane will not work very well. The offset of the camera will cause the arm to twist if the weight of the cam exceeds a certain point. Pick up something like the Cobra Crane II. More expensive, but worth it to remove the twist.

I have a jib similar to that one, but can't use it. When I place it on my tripod, the screw on top of the tripod isn't long enough to add a nut or anything once the jib is placed on it. I had no idea they made special stands for them. Thanks!

Great episode Russ! I really like the style of this episode, I like the sofa and the the stuff on the wall. I feel that it made the video more natural. I think it would be cool if you could shoot with a 'set' like this every week.

Yes! The lumberjack shirt! Hey that motorised pan head isn't too bad a price! I'd like one that moves along the y-axis too cos i coulda done with one today as the jib wouldn't fit in the room we were in.

Yes you can, and one of Kris' test videos at the end features the Motorized Pan Head on his Opteka 47 Slider from last week's episode, which can give you an idea how it would look.

Always good to start out small and work your way up anyway. If I had this rig when I was earlier on in my filmmaking career, I think I'd be too overwhelmed, lol.

I think I will buy the motorized pan head for sure.
Would also love the jib, but refusing to get a job really doesn't help me to buy film equipment.

I think so, though worse case you can manually do it as it has a dial on the side to let you keep track of what degree angle you're currently on.

I do that so much, it's hard not for me to do, lol. I do that on set when actors are reading anything I write, it's like an uncontrollable tic.

Ahhhhhhh! Must have all of that! That's one sick rig. Does the motorized head have a way to reset back to the same position it started at?
