Working With Actors: An Interview - Part 2 Bullboski: I have to disagree about line reads. My job as a director is to direct the actors. And if the actors aren't delivering the lines like I want them, then it's my job to tell them how to deliver them.
Now I'm not saying do that for every single line. That is being an arrogant director. But every director has some lines in their film that they want said in a certain way.
And if an actor ever came up to me and said, I don't need line reads, it would come off as arrogant & it would put me off to working with them.

Dude, what was the 2nd cam you had on you? The cam on the actor looked good but your cam on you. ummm. well, it didn't look so good. OK, I will be honest. looked like crap. Go to ebay and by a T3i or something!
But on the other hand I have to really hand it to you. You had two segments of very long interviews without a single cut seam at all! You kept the conversation going, there were no dead spots, and you kept it very interesting. Great job. Wish my interviews worked out that way.

Indy mogul thank you for this interview perfect. Thank you so much. your videos help alot. I'm currently a cinema student still learning the ropes and Lil by Lil I'm still learning how to direct actors. You guys made a good point. don't ever tell an actor how to say his lines only guide them in the their route. Thank you for this video

Where I don't have a clue is how to do get that first start. I'm looking into film festivals where I don't feel like I'm wasting my time and money. I'm making a website and updating my portfolio. I'm constantly creating and improving my storytelling. That doesn't seem enough though. I feel like I'm missing a step!

To young directors Never let actors tell you how to direct! Directing actors is your job! They don't know your vision and they can be replaced (but don't tell them that. When you're starting out you gotta watch for actors and DP's taking over your film.

Russ, I think you went went over the topic of line reading way too quickly. They should have talked about it more, and discussed how a director can tell an actor how to act in the best way. Or at least the way that's best most often.

I like that you allow the person you interview to speak without interruption. Some interviewers force you to listen to their comments & opinions. Thank you for the honest & raw interview you had wth Kevin Interdonato.

I won't tell you how to direct no offence but when a director tells you to do something differently he's directing therefore you not doing it and telling him not to direct you is telling him how to direct
