This is truly unbelievable. I'm from Cape Breton (An Island in Nova Scotia) and I know someone who lost almost their entire family in that explosion. If you ask any canadian what the Halifax Explosion is they will all tell you close to the same thing. It was one of the worst events in canadian history. 2000 people died, and 9000 people were injured. And if you TRULY knew what it is, then you would know that its a very sad topic in canada and should be everywere. Schools everywhere in Canada teach children about it because its important to remember those who died. The fact that someone would joke about it is truly appauling. I think americans - and not just america other countries too, need an education in Canadian History. At least enough not to laugh about something that hurt so many. Nobody in Canada would laugh about 911 or all the school shootings that happen in the U. S. A. And the fact that someone would say Hey, I know all about the Halifax Explosion because I'm good at trivia or I know what year it took place or No one cares about the people who died in the Halifax Explosion it was like 100 years ago! I can tell you for a fact that everyone who lost family members - and even those who didn't all care about the people who died. I mean look at this entire comment section, its full of Canadian's saying all the same thing - This ISN'T a laughing matter. And I know that Rob Lowe and Jimmy Kimmel probably never meant to offend anybody, but people shouldn't go laughing at something they know nothing about. I Think Jimmy Kimmel and Rob Lowe owe Canada an apology And By the way that is NOT how we speak - Seriously people need to forget those sterotypes.

Being from Halifax breaks my heart to hear the laughter and jokes being poked at the Halifax explosion. Its great that we were mention but at least get the facts straight before putting it in a movie or talking about it on live tv. Always be thankful for Boston for their help and support during that time, but other parts of Canada helped as well. The good that could have come from this segment is that people will now look up the Halifax explosion and will get the right facts and even so come to Halifax you can see the anchor and go to our museums or talk to any maritimer and will be more than willing to tell all about it properly and respectfully.

I'm from Halifax. the 'it was 100 years ago so everyone's forgotten them' joke went too far (after all, it wouldn't be ok to joke about Pearl Harbour or 911 in a couple more decades like that, would it, but I still think its incredibly cool that it even got brought up, Eastern Canada is never brought up in American pop culture, so I am not mad about this. xD If anything now many more people know about this historical event that wouldn't have known otherwise. So that's awesome.

I am completely floored by the ignorance and disrespect just shown. Jimmy Kimmel. I am a huge fan. I recognize that comedy imitates life, but this was not meant for comedy. This was a tragedy. One that we teach our children about and that we mourn. My 11 year old son just wrote an essay on the Halifax Explosion. Perhaps I should send it to both you and Rob Lowe. For a man that says he is obsessed with this historic event. He knew very little of the facts.

There are people living today who's parents, friends, or other family either died or lived through the explosion. It's one thing to make jokes (see: Picnicface's All About Halifax) and another to spread misinformation and make a mockery of it. He says he's obsessed but doesn't say a single correct thing. I never thought I'd be offended by something like this but here we are.

I am from Halifax and I am sorry for the hate. There is some miss information it seems but the jokes were funny. We have the Halifax Pop Explosion and the Halifax Explosion coffee but all of a sudden it is deeply offensive to joke about the event when it is a famous celebrity? Props to you Rob Lowe and I look forward to Super Troopers 2.

It happened 100 years ago, so you can laugh about it now because the 2000 casualties are forgotten? Really? Im from Halifax. This is tasteless and crude. It was a disaster. Its okay to be interested in it. Its NOT okay to make a joke out of it. No one jokes about 9/11 or wars on national television. Sickening

It was a French and a Belgian ship. The one carrying munitions could not fly the communications flag indicating they were carrying explosives because there were German submarines known to be outside the Harbour at times doing surveillance. They would be a sure target if the flag was flown.

Disgraceful that you would joke about such a big tragedy. Lost my respect. You are a very famous public figure, couldn't you have used this skit for something more positive? This is embarrassing. I hope you're ashamed of yourselves for writing such trash.
