A few years back there was a movement in the Congress to increase voting representatives from 435 to 437. The idea was to create a congressional district in Utah (likely Republican) in order to make the idea palatable to Republicans. Statehood is unlikely to happen because giving the District residents two Senators would tip the tight balance over to Dems. I think DC rejected this proposal.

A 70 mile state sounds like a great idea as you hear the sounds of them bulldozing the washington monument. As long as that white house is in DC they should not have representation in congress because congress is supposed to run DC! They didnt have a mayor until 1975. DC needs to remain a Federal District no matter how lazy our political dictators become.

Did she say her and the ppl of D. C. persuaded the National Guard to STAND DOWN! OMG! That is amazing! I really would like to see footage of how they did that! This tactic of persuasion can benifit future protestor and save lives!

Yes, the muriel was cute and the sign was cute. However, the money the mayor already has goes into gentrification. Wiping the black population into the corners of dc by increasing rent that are up 2000 a month. Her wanting statehood is such a contradiction. She cant even listen to her own citizens.

51st State! Let's finally end taxation without representation in our beautiful capital city: ) We're just as American as people in Wyoming, there's more of us, but DC gets zero votes in the Senate and Wyoming gets 2. One person one vote right?
