Sir Lewis Hamilton on Being Knighted by King Charles, Begging to Be in Top Gun & Formula 1 Racing

Rating: 4.0; Vote: 1
Sir Lewis Hamilton talks about meeting King Charles at 13 years old and being knighted, driving in England, becoming a part-owner of the Broncos, being a professional Formula 1 racer, begging Tom Cruise to put him in Top Gun: Maverick - and since he couldn t do it because of scheduling issues, Jimmy gives him a line to read from the movie. Christian: For the typical Jimmy Kimmel viewer, who probably knows nothing about Lewis, he certifiably ranks as the greatest F1 driver of all time (F1 being the fastest of all racing motorsports that do more than go in a straight line) by the measure of being tied (with Michael Schumacher) for most F1 driver's titles of all time, and furthermore holding the record for several other stats. But he is also the nicest, sincerest, most humble global star athlete there ever was, not at all reflecting of his status of one of the highest-achieving human beings ever to grace planet Earth. He is always so warm and grateful for his team and crew, appreciative of everything everyone does, apologetic to others when things don't go his way, supportive of others' efforts, mature, kind, thoughtful.

The Brits pass oncoming traffic on the left(drive on left side of the roads) due to the Knights Templar travelling to the Crusades - Swords were carried on the left hip to be drawn by the right hand, and thus stuck out to the left - roadways did not exist in most places - just tracks through the woods and when horsemen met along the trail, due to the dangers there, would put there right hands on the sword hilts and would pass each other to the left side to protect themselves and leave their swords unhampered to be drawn if needed. That became normal in most of the world for centuries. The Brits exported the tradition and it was, and still is, in use in several other countries with colonial backgrounds. But for those travelling in and out of countries with changing laws, it can be confusing, especially when jet lagged, as I image an F1 driver might experience with his extensive, non stop world wide travel.

I LOVE this guy. Hamilton is the reason I got into F1 after watching a documentary on him. Never watched racing before of any kind, but his story is inspirational. His father is working 3 jobs to keep his (initially) GoKart racing car running. All the other kids have wealthy parents, and he and his father are the only Black people racing, thus boatloads of racism. But with his father's help, he persevered despite the hardships. He's at least one of the GOATs, if not THE GOAT. I watched this guy win a race on 3 tires! Amazing.

That town he grew up in was Stevenage, the road was Peartree Way, the schools Peartree primary and Sir John Henry Newman secondary. I grew up in Furzedown and attended Ashtree and Collenswood schools, all of which are about half-a-mile away. We will have used the same fish & chip shop at The Hyde. However, I'm a tad (aka quite a bit ) older than Sir Lew and moved to London 5 years before he was even born, but hey, I'm still claiming a connection.
BTW, there was nothing special in the water - I'm a decidedly average driver.

I wanted Verstappen to win the championship for a change but now I want Lulu back. He has such a likeable personality and a humble demeanor, he definitely deserves his accomplishments and the praise. Some other people cough are acting bratty and despite all the talent it's very unsatisfying to see someone like that on the podium. Lewis has his moments of criticism, but I truly believe he's a good person at heart with aspirations greater than his own glory.

Lewis is such a class act. He comes across as soft spoken but he's really a fierce and fair competitor, a great leader, a great team member, super smart, super amazingly athletic, an insanely hard worker, and humble. He's just awesome to me. I used to think that Schumacher was the greatest F1 driver of all time but I think Lewis is even more accomplished and even doing more for the sport now. Keep fighting Michael.

Lewis is undoubtedly one of the true F1 greats but unfortunately in Max Verstappen he has a competitor that is that much better. Come rain or shine, it is Verstappen that you can count on. Even in inferior equipment, he had the measure of Hamilton. I suspect Hamilton will retire at the end of 2023.

So good to see Hamilton so well received here in the states. I expected most of these comments to be negative. Yet, they're positive. That's not because of the algorithm. It's because he is accomplished. It's because he presents himself as the amazing human being that he is.

Jimmy was referring to Bill Maher when he said he knows a guy who owns part of a sports team who told him when they lose money, you have to invest extra. It s from Bill Maher s podcast when he had Jimmy on, its a good episode, I watched it on the Podcasts app on iPad.

It's interesting to see the comments here describing Lewis as 'humble'. He's probably the greatest F1 driver of all time. He's definitely a role model: . but humble? Noooooo. His ego is massive, and well documented. The humble act is stictly for the tv audience.

I love the guy, but no way is he the greatest of all time. He isn't even beating his teammate this year. Is he the best of his generation? Sure, just like Max is the best of his. However the best of all time. that's without question Ayrton Senna

It makes such sense. Most Formula One drivers don't like driving like you and me. Come on, if your job day in and day out is driving a Formula One car then driving a supercar is MEH. No matter what that thing is. They'd rather be driven around.

Lewis just blowing smoke up American arses here and playing the diplomat. He knows the left-side of the road makes more sense. It's like playing right-handed guitar- you do the hard work with your left hand (Playing a riff, changing gear)

He like business. Sir lewis this would be a great one. Build 2 seater f1 mercedes, travel the world after you retire giving regular gear heads like me a lap on the track at speed. I would take out a loan to pay for that. priveledge.
