I don't know if I'm commented before, but what this game reminds me of is those terrible -parody- films we got in the 2000s, such as -Epic Movie, - -Disaster Movie, - etc. All of those movies had no actual, crafted jokes, they were just pop culture references. Like in Disaster Movie, a guy dressed like Jack Sparrow shows up. The joke is. he's in the movie. Those movies are basically unwatchable today because they lack true humor and also rely entirely on having been around at the time to get the references. This game is the same thing. If you weren't around in the late 90s or paid attention to Microsoft, you aren't going to get any of the references here. Compare this to, say, a movie like Airplane, which has genuine, crafted jokes. The movie is funny even today because it works entirely as its own thing. And then it's even funnier if you do get the references it makes. As LGR alluded to, had this game made actual criticism of Microsoft that didn't rely on -you had to be there- references, it might have held up better.

The best parody of Windows is ANYTHING else. My (then) boss bought a Mac in 1999 and told me it -creamed- Windows. It took me five more years to make the break, but I am SO glad I did! Today I use Mac OS almost 90% of the time and Linux around 8% of the time. Windows, with all its woes, is just the occasional boot to support old software which is no longer available on any platform. Mostly using Clone DVD to rip recalcitrant DVDs. If only they would re-release their software on Mac or Ubuntu; but the need for those programs is becoming much less over the years.

Yeah I think people forgot that each company invested in eachother in the late 1990's and that the competition was a bit more -friendly- I guess, seeing that Apple had a decent market share (although never the majority) and that they sort of needed eachother I guess (Apple needed MS for its Office software since by that time Office was becoming the standard office productivity suite of the future) and obviously Microsoft needed apple so they could get Office onto virtually every computer in every house and business (at least that was running Windows or MacOS.

-Buy it now before we upgrade it again- is actually kinda funny because that's definitely how I felt about a lot of software before the age of online subscription services, specifically Photoshop (seriously, I remember looking at their website and seeing CS2 being listed for like $600 with an ad for the upcoming CS3 right next to it. The title -MS Word Up- is also somewhat clever, although the premise for that whole joke seems arguably slightly racist (or classist.

I had a copy of Microsoft winblows 98. it was seriously needed comic relief. it was funny. my mom's Yorkshire terror puppy destroyed it in 99. and I was PYST. I had just gotten my A+ Net+ finishing up my MCSE. I picked it up in an a black Friday bargain bin. I thought it would be good to conversation bookshelf conversation piece next to my retail big box complimentary copy and oem edition. some of the humor was great B rate slapstick for what it's supposed

So, in 1998, this was funny.
One thing that doesn't always age well is comedy. People who were using Windows 95/98 got it because the stuff was frustrating. If you played Myst, Pyst was funny because Myst PISSED YOU OFF!
Anyways, The review was honest and yeah, today the game is shit. but things changed A LOT between 97 and 2012 lol. Hell, back in 97 live video in a game was amazeballs! :D

Hi LGR, long time watcher, first time commenter. As a stand up comedian I must say this is ultra cringe!
Although I think I played the star wars parody and it was ok: )
Also I think you-re wrong about Mac software most of the Mac ports I played of PC were far superior and there was even a game called escape velocity that was ported after two sequels from Mac to PC!

The Parroty Interactive game Pyst was actually fairly clever, being a joke about what would happen to Myst Island once tourism took hold. It had John Goodman in a cameo role and he even recorded a song called -I'm Pyst- that could be listened to if you put the game disc in a CD player. Juvenile? Kinda, but I thought it was funny in a Mad Magazine kind of way.

Microsoft saved Apple from dying to make it hard to legally argue that Microsoft was a de facto monopoly. They weren't competitors much yet because Microsoft was too busy crushing everybody else at the time. For starting the video saying how Microsoft was doing shady stuff, you've really backpedaled to the point where you're defending disgusting business practices
