Overview, installation, and demonstration of the retro PC game controller, the Demon Gunn by Tac Systems, Inc! Time to play several games terribly with it

the main problem with it, conceptually, is that it's trying to be a one-handed controller, but it's replacing two-handed controls. If it was ergonomically designed, this might work for games that just need a joystick and a button or two, but even then you'll get a better experience with a two-handed control method. With a bit longer in conceptualisation, they would have been able to come up with a way to make a two-handed control system from this idea that doesn't feel weird or break the theme. Of course, you'd ideally be able to use the gun to aim naturally, which to be fair wasn't at all a concern back when it was made as shooters weren't really 3d. On console there's been a lot of controllers like this made, from the light guns back around the NES, all the way to controllers using stuff like the Wii sensor, but we haven't really had a decent iteration of this idea on PC.

I had one of these back in the day (when i was like, 10 or 11, it was the worst thing ever, i ended up giving it away to a boy in my class. But i gave him the heads up that it's total garbage, but he liked it anyways cause it looked cool.
And even though i told him exactly how it worked, he still complained the next day that it was terrible.
But now, i wish i had one again because i could totally put a couple comparative accelerometers in it, and maybe even a camera. Or rig it up to some sort of Vive Tracker.

Never played DOOM, but is the gun tied to the perspective (that's what it looks like? And if so, how would a gun addition change anything at all? I thought people were more tech savvy back in the day (given the difficulty of past OSes to use, compared to modern OSes) so I am not sure what happened here.

I would probably keep it a two handed controller, and I'd treat it extra carefully. It looks like that button would give you a lot of leverage to break the stick, if you're an intense player. Modern, fancy controllers break. I'm sure it wouldn't take long for that thing to break, if regularly used.

W-wait. Dave Silva? Holy- what a small world! I used to know that guy! I sent him a six-button PC game controller, once. Man, to think he'd end up in an LGR video- Hah, wild.
- too bad this video blows with that overblown price and not giving the thing a chance. Feh.

Oh god, I had that gun. Bought it on clearance for under $10 ages ago, but I don't recall it being called the Demon Destroyer. It was the worst controller I ever had the displeasure of using. Super cheap, gun shape completely useless. Got rid of it during a move.

As a kid, I found some version of this in a bin at a flea market in the 90's for around 50 cents. Pretty sure I just chopped the cable off and treated it like a toy. I distinctly remember the paint or plastic or something left a strange smell on my hands.

A very late comment, I know, but I gotta say that this is my favourite episode of Oddware. First off, it's just such a bizarre idea for a game controller, and the way Clint deals with it is just hysterical to me. The Demon Destroyer Gunnnnnnn lmao -

Could you re-map the joystick to mouse-look and just use the keyboard to move? Could maybe be somewhat intuitive to push forward when aiming down and pulling back while aiming up, same for left and right; like a manual motion sensor.

I bought one of these new in 95 or 96 and it was fresh onto the babbages shelf less than a week before i got it and it was already on sale at 9. 99 US. My father and I had an afternoon of laughs giving it go on everything we could.
