Datel released the PC Action Replay cheat device in 1998, complete with VHS tape and parallel port dongle. It was awful. Didn't stop them from bringing it to the USA in the form of the PC Game Shark! - Here's the LGR Oddware episode about the Action Replay: - Other LGR links: - Music credits go to

It's a shame that Action Replay devolved into some kind of dedicated game cheat device like this. The original Action Replay for C64 and Amiga that I know of had so many uses for snooping memory, ripping audio and graphics, changing stuff on the fly, and allowed all kinds of creative things not only with games but with the system as a whole. Cheating in games was the least interesting thing it did I find. As a child it really deepened my curiosity into what was going on in the machine when I was playing my favorite games and allowed me to do some tinkering: . Maybe people in general just wanted a way to cheat at games and had no interest in the more creative uses of the products. Maybe that's why they thought that going down this route was the way forward. That'd be a shame.

Modern gaming is just drippy, runny diarrhea. Greed has ruined the entire industry. Micro-transactions, -DLC- that actually contains necessary pieces of the game, achievement hunting; the near-complete loss of split screen gaming, and finally, the move away from including cheat codes.
If you're talking about competitive online multiplayer, fine; obviously you don't want cheating of any kind. But when I'm just messing around with a single player experience, who cares if I cheat? Lets say you can't complete the game if you're cheating, that would still be fine with me; but even that doesn't seem to be enough for modern developers.

Does anyone know a old PC adventure game from the 90's where there is a display of relics, a warehouse that connects to the docks outside (morning) which there is a ship with a submarine. The Submarine has two rooms, the floor looks fancier then if compared by if you played Light House The Dark Being submarine puzzle and your goal is to find a wreckage in the ocean.
I only heard a clue it was called Robert Ballerds Titanic Adventure but there isn't prove of it then what I described of it.
I think there are still missing PC games that haven't surfaced yet.

Yarp. Codes between regions vary. JAP. EU, and US I think are the 3 common. Thing with PC software are updates. Back then that really didn't happen with consoles. Some snes games like FF3/6 had I think 2 different versions. Once you update the software, you usually need to remake the codes. Strange it won't work for the OG release of Starcraft, if its really the first version. Either way, nice video!

I can tell you for sure how this used to work. You actually had to keep a solid internet connection back then and it would auto update with newer patches, much like you would have to have today. Unfortunately, this wouldn't work now-a-days. I had one back in the day and the updates used to happen randomly, and didn't have a UI for it either, so it would just suddenly slow the whole computer down.

The gameshark software might not work due to be run on a version of win98se that was too new for it. I think some change was done to the memory management to improve security that caused the gameshark software to be unable to access memory of other programs. Think about how big a security flaw it is when a program can change an other programs memory space,

They made these action replay things for consoles back in the day that were very succesful. I get the feeling they just produced these things off the back of the great success they had with the 16bit console market, those ones actually functioned. They even made them for game boy and game gear I think

Once you had access to the internet, you had access to all the cheat codes that were publicly revealed. So yes, Game Shark is a rip off. And that they have a copy protection device is a bunch of bull shit. They're making money off of things that are free, but keeping you from sharing.

I never used stuff like Game Shark or anything of that sort because it feels more rewarding personally to play a game without cheats or guides understandably everyone-s different but I do remember this thing being a large piece of garbage unlike the ones made for consoles
