Reboots, reimaginings, the odd behind-the-scenes spat: Actors can be replaced between movies for any number of reasons and sometimes it goes very, very wrong. Batman Reboots, reimaginings, the odd behind-the-scenes spat: Actors can be replaced between movies for any number of reasons — and sometimes it goes very, very wrong. In the early '90s, Michael Keaton handed over the keys for Wayne Manor, having portrayed Bruce Wayne in 1989's Batman and its 1992 sequel Batman Returns. Reportedly, Keaton refused to reprise the role in the third film after reading the screenplay and in the years since has pointed the blame for his departure squarely at the writers. Val Kilmer clearly didn't share Keaton's misgivings. The Tombstone star accepted the role as-is and went into the film knowing he'd have to contend with a famous cast of villains and a new director. "Riddle me this, riddle me that, who's afraid of the big black bat?" In the end, Joel Schumacher shouldered a lot of the blame for 1995's Batman Forever, though his leading man didn't escape criticism. Kilmer's performance was described as "utterly lethargic" and "god-awful," with a review published by Film4 specifically calling out Keaton's replacement as being simply "not up to the job." Many planned Superman projects failed to come to fruition in the years after 1987's resoundingly terrible Superman IV:. The Quest For Peace. Nearly 20 years later, the Man of Steel returned to the big screen for 2006's Superman Returns. Superman Director Bryan Singer's take on DC's prized property proved to be a solid enough platform to take the franchise forward, though the vast budget meant that the movie wasn't a financial success. That said, Brandon Routh's turn as the Man of Steel drew praise from many, with Newsweek in particular gushing over Routh for the way in which the newcomer "effortlessly lays claim to the iconic role.". The outlet even favorably compared him to Christopher Reeve. Although DC intended to produce a sequel to Superman Returns, every year that passed made it less likely to happen. Despite Routh making it quite clear that he wanted to don the red cape again, the studio opted to reboot the franchise with Man of Steel, a Zack Snyder reboot fronted by Henry Cavill. Trouble is, Snyder's film took the aspect of Superman Returns that people didn't like — the morose, humorless tone — and amplified it. Cavill's downbeat portrayal of the titular hero has been criticized for being too brooding and too dark, leading to a Superman film that's practically devoid of joy. Today, Back to the Future stands as a timeless classic that continues to delight audiences of all ages. Crispin Glover played the role of Marty's father, George, in arguably his most iconic role. George McFly From cowardly creep to confident ladies' man, George undergoes the most significant transformation in the trilogy — both on and off camera. In fact, some might not even realize that Glover didn't return for Back to the Future Part II, in which he was replaced by Jeffrey Weissman wearing Glover-inspired prosthetics. Despite having fully recast Jennifer Parker for the sequels, the filmmakers opted to hide their new George McFly via prosthetics and clever filmmaking techniques that made it nearly impossible to spot the fake. Originally, co-writer and co-producer Bob Gale claimed that Glover quit due to a pay dispute, but Glover himself has denied this on a number of occasions. I'm always angry." Ruffalo has played the reluctant hero ever since, but unfortunately, his more comedic take on the character feels too far removed from Norton's intricately complex dive into Bruce Banner's psyche. In this case, at least, it seems like the MCU opted for style over substance.

WOAH WHOA WOAH. Hold up. Let's be clear about something. Henry Cavill's casting didn't ruin Man of Steel. Zack Snyder's dog$#! t directing skills and the awful script ruined that movie. Cavill is literally the only good thing about it. Everyone else is horrible miscast. Amy Adams was awful as Lois. Diane Lane as Martha I SHOULDN'T WANT TO BANG MA KENT, YOU ASSHOLES. Lawrence Fishburn as Perry No man. No. These are all amazing actors playing characters other than the ones we're expecting. To be fair, Costner as Pa could have worked if Snyder and company hadn't cocked it up.

probably Solo was ruined by the fact it was actors other than Harrison and Billy Dee in the lead roles. If Disney had made the film these days, they could probably have done what they did with Dial of Destiny, de-aged Harrison and Billy Dee Williams pretty convincingly - the technology has improved (didn't say perfect) since they used that technique with Mark Hamil in Mandolorian/Book of Boba Fett (whichever it was.

Norton was replaced because he wanted everything his way, practically wanted to take over as script writer and director, and this is a well budgeted franchise with plans of it's own, no room for egomaniacs. Mad respect to Norton as an actor, but he was not a team player, and Ruffalo did just fine. The Hulk is one of the worst installments. Tim Roth was the highlight of that movie.

I don't see how you can blame Ruffalo for doing what the directors and studio told him to do. He plays an amazing Hulk/Banner. It's just that because of his licensing issues he's only ever been able to be in team-ups and ensemble films so we can't focus on Hulk being a rage machine. It was the MCU's decision to make him more goofy than a force of nature, just like they did with Thor.

Katie Holmes was an absolute idiot for turning down the Dark Knight all because she didnt want to die in the movie. I bet she watched the You know where I got my scars scene and wished she had stayed in the role being face to face with Heath Ledger giving his greatest performance ever. She missed out on one of the best scenes in film history hands down.

The thing about Back to the Future is that they didn’t hang George upside down to hide that it wasn’t Crispin Glover. He has said in an interview when he was first shown the original script for the 2nd movie it mentioned George hanging upside down. So really it was just the prosthetics that they used to try and hide that it wasn’t Crispin

I certainly wouldn't say that Crispin Glover's replacement ruined Back to the Future II. George McFly is a very minor part of Back to the Future II. You either like the movie or you don't, but I wouldn't say that Glover's replacement has anything to do with it. Even if he'd returned, he would have only been in the movie for a few minutes.

I think Ruffalo was a job Bruce. The writing from Disney/Marvel for the MCU has been atrocious and we see this through the Thor movies in particular where they are effectively treated as a comedy skit show. Although Ruffalo is a bit of a. well I'll just say it's a juxtaposition that he's playing someone who is supposed to be intelligent.

I fully disagree about Maggie Gyllenhaal being a downgrade over Katie Holmes as Rachel Dawes. Bale and Holmes’s relationship was by far the weakest element in Batman Begins. I didn’t buy them as childhood friends turned lovers at all. Gyllenhaal had much more believable and tangible connection with Bale in the Dark Knight.

6: 12, First of all, I never had a problem with SCOOB! at all.
2nd, Shaggy, Scooby-Doo, Scrappy-Doo and the rest of Mystery Inc. have been potrayed by different Actors and Actresses for nearly 55 Years when you think about.
So hating the Voice Cast behind SCOOB! is kind of pointless.

For context fishburn did not reprise his role because the Matrix had an online game for pc and was killed off in that game and since they made the game canon to the story line thats why fishburn also did not reprise his role as morpheus. Gotta remember to do extra research guys.

19: 06, I think that The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas is meant to be a Prequel to the first Film, which pretty much explains the casting for the Film, since I suppose its meant to take place 5 or 10 Years before the Events of the 1st Flintstones Film.

Unpopular opinion, I think Queen of the damned is 10x better than Interview w/ vampire. While I think interview with the vampire was well-acted just not well written in my mind. While Queen of damned was well acted well written in the soundtrack is spot

Literally everyone in Mortal Kombat Annihilation was recast except for Robin Shou as Liu Kang and Talisa Soto as Kitana. That’s how awful this movie threw me off when I first watched the movie back in 1997.

i think you should never replace actors if you going to make sequel if actor dont want to do it then it is just better throw sequel to trash and just reboot and make it as new versio of movies

A more prominent change of actor was Elizabeth Shue as Jennifer in BTTF 2 vs Claudia Wells in the first film. Wouldn't say that change ruined BTTF2 since her role was quite minor.

Most of these movies were successful, and the ones that had problems failed because of direction/production issues rather than actor changes. Garbage headline, garbage content, Looper.

Henry Cavill was, by far, the best Superman ever. Don’t care for the movie That’s fine. But Cavill was the perfect portrayal of Superman. In character and looks.
