As soon as I heard about this movie last year, I knew I'd only ever watch it with the original language and English subs. I also felt the same way about Prey, as soon as I saw the Comanche dub was available, I quickly replaced the English version, as it felt far more normal, despite that English is the only language I know. I'd rather watch these movies as they were originally intended, out of respect to the actors and the setting of the movies. The only other thing I watch from time to time that isn't in English, although the option exists, is Das Boot. Something about watching movies and mini series in their original language just makes the viewing experience that little more enjoyable.

I watched this in theaters and was perfectly fine with the subtitles. However, the second I realized it was on Netflix AND had an English dub, I watched it again in English. The dub was WAY better than I expected, and I was very happy with it. Also, my wife hates subtitles with a passion, so she never watched Minus One because of it. Now she has seen it (finally) and I finally get to share her reactions to this movie! You can have your opinions, but if you don't like the dub, you are perfectly able to watch it in the original. I'm thrilled we now have the option to watch it in English.

The bits I've heard made me frown because it sounded to me like they were going for the stereotypical Japanese sounding voice acting, stiff and stilted. I agree that this needs to be watched in Japanese with subs because the dub will not do the Japanese actors' hard work any real justice. I don't even want to hear the dubbed version of Koichi's epic meltdown in Ginza because there is no doubt on my part that it will sound goofy in comparison to the original. There is so much raw and hard hitting emotion in that one scene alone that they shouldn't have touched it.

Looking forward to watching G-1 again when Blu-Ray 4K version comes out. So far its my favorite Godzilla movie! RAAAAAAAAWR!

Ive been trying to get my mother to watch this, but in her old age she takes alot more time to read than she used to. and the dialog for Minus one is already somewhat in a greyzone that its well written enough and simple that she could have no problem but since she hasnt watched a movie with subs since we watched Godzilla Tokyo S. O. S. she just doesnt have the confidence to be able to get through it without her eyes getting tired. now that stubborn ass sandwhich lady has no excuse to miss out on a masterpiece

I'm not going to lie, I'm not some purist that thinks all movies should be watched in their native language. I don't like to read my movies. I like my anime dubbed and I enjoy the cheesy dubs of the classic Godzilla movies. If done right, it doesn't take anything away from the movie. The French movie Brotherhood of the Wolf was a really good example. Godzilla 1985 was pretty good as well. And have you tried watching Prince of Space without an English dub Or. without the MST3K commentary

Still plan on watching it in its original Japanese language. Even if the English dub is pretty good, the dubs always lose the nuances and intricacies of the original Japanese language. I will always watch all foreign films in their original language unless there's no choice in the matter, and it's ONLY available in a dubbed English version.

I'm in my 40's and never been able to read a movie and watch a movie. I have to choose which I do. If I have to read subtitles, that is all I am doing - flat voice of my own brain in my head, and catching none of what's going on.
I am always grateful when Dubs are good, because otherwise I'll never get to watch many shows / movies.

I finally watched Godzilla Minus One, yes, the dubbing is great. The acting is great and I actually cared about what happened to the characters. But most of all, Godzilla actually had weight! He’s cumbersome and each step looks like it takes effort. And the cgi is incredible for the limited budget the movie was produced on.

The reason the English dub is not overacting is because the original is not overacting like other Japanese movies. A lot of Japanese acting method was done in a theatrical way with a lot of monologues in Japan, but this movie has less. We still need to give credits to the overdubbing team too though.

I liked the sub at cinema, there isn't a lot of dialogue anyway so it's fine, but I'm glad for people who prefer dubs if they find this one isn't bad, I still would recommend watching the subbed though to get the Japanese original voices as some of the character voices are great

I saw John Woo's The Killer in a 1990 theatrical arthouse release. There was a scene in which he is talking to his friend/handler, and remarks when handling a Beretta: Easy to Pick Up, Hard to Put Down. Same scene, dubbed for home video: Someone just walked over my grave.

I really hope they release Godzilla minus one with the Netflix English dub with the Japanese original track dub on DVD/Blu-ray soon in American and other countries.
Not to mention, they did a variant in theaters with a black and white viewing option.

I thought that Funimation did a good job with the Shin Godzilla dub too, though the more cold procedural nature of that one means that not much emotion is required. They even refer to him as Gojira in it, which I think might be a first in an english dub.

As someone who watches anime in Japanese with English subtitles mostly, I found the film easy to sit through. I've watched parts of the film with the English dub and I personally find the original dub of the film to be better IMO. Such a great film!

I will admit that I was about half way through before I realized that it was dubbed. It really felt like some of the old Godzilla movies and it wasn't the dubbing that made me feel that way. But the dubbing was quite well done and I've enjoyed the movie

Dub/sub both are good I just Netflix had the minus color version too. I loved the black & white treatment for both Logan Noir and Mad Max Fury Road: Black & Chrome (my preferred versions of both) and would love to see how well Minus One turned out.

It's fine they have dub and it's decend as any accommodation is a plus, but for me dub is like audiodescription, you use it if you have to. I want to see the movie the closest of how it was intended and hear actual actors saying their lines.
