In this day and age, shouldn't there be a massive underground circulating uncut versions of films to Chinese citizens willing to pay premium for uncensored material? I know the Great Firewall is pretty tough, but surely there's gotta be a Chinese audience who wants the intact material and a pipeline to feed that audience. Added to which, can't citizens with the money to travel abroad just visit the States for a short-term visa and binge-watch these films? You'd think there'd be more of this kind of thing going on.
BTW, this arrangement with China is going to come back and bite us in the ass. It'll be like our box office issues with Germany in the 30s. I dunno if it'll take a WWIII for the implosion to happen, but it's going to fall apart eventually (probably due to that 85-25% return ratio) and the film history books will consider this a sad, sad, foolhardy period.

It is only going to get worse as China buys up more of Hollywood, China is a brand new, massive market right now and due to the Chinese government, the people there have seen almost nothing compared to what American audiences have seen, which is why Hollywood has been making so many garbage sequels lately; the Chinese eat it up and the movies end up making more money over seas than in America. Box office records are consistently breaking on every blockbuster that comes out because the profit is inflated by the international market and without it they would probably be making less, as most movie junkies like me are sick of seeing the same stories over and over.

I'm here because I am alarmed by Top Gun 2's new trailer showing Maverick's leather jacket without the Japanese and Taiwanese flags. What else are they going to change in this new movie? Are the Chinese going to be the saviors of the American pilots? Silicon Valley and China are working hand in hand to censor American products and content. Scary! Hollywood wants to tap China's markets and they'll sell this country inorder to do it.

Looper video claims that Star Trek Beyond was seriously changed for China (even though the movie had Sulu as an LGBT character, then shows that China heavily sensors/bans LGBT stuff. Riiiiiiiiiigggghhhhhht.
BTW, nice job avoiding any mention of how Doctor Strange changed a Tibetan character into Tilda Swinton to appease China. It's no surprise that Looper is clearly a Marvel fan with all the shit posts you make about DC.

AAAnd. this is why I stopped watching movies and moved to watching more YT. Firstly, 99. 9 percent of all movies suck with terrible acting and horrible CGI. Secondly, Hollywood is a shameless machine that just pumps out shit films with a recycled story lines with half-assed plots. Lastly, they pander to China whilst eroding away American values and beliefs which of course spreads a bad message altogether.

who better to criticize, than an objective witness? - sounds a lot like there's a backlash against any Asian presence. back to the good old days! - no foreign presence. No East Asians, no South Asians. No money to influence Hollywood scripts; because that would be so morally wrong! - WRONG! - the fact that the future belongs to, no favored group, as opposed to blacks and whites, is a refreshing beginning.

i think the taiwanese director in the star trek film get it right. you dont need to pander by putting in chinese 'just because' (since theres already one asian I guess) just make the show fun with lots of effects, and easy to understand that there will be no cultural barrier.
i guess its easier since the culture is space culture tho.
