The Real Reason Why Mother! Flopped At The Box Office Hannah: Mother (Jennifer Lawrence) represents all of humankind. Fueled by our emotions, ego, suffering, and blame. We've always attempted to justify our actions by blaming what's happening around us. Him(Javier Bardem, on the other hand, represents the true forces of the universe: reincarnation and unconditional love. Forces beyond our understanding! Humankind goes through cycles of reincarnation after continuing our choice to suffer. Look closely at Mother's actions in the movie. She has anxiety, anger, and she is CHOOSING to suffer. Yes, life can be so painful and it is difficult to be at peace. But there is still a choice. Many viewers are brought to anger and anxiety just from WATCHING this movie! Why do you think that is? We have learned to be anxious, angry and fueled by our ego. That is the easy path that so many of us choose.
But Him, the poet, the creator, the Forces of the Universe show that it does not have to be that way.
We don't have to keep burning ourselves to the ground! Listen to what's truly happening around us.
We are slowly evolving as humans! And why do you think that is? Reincarnation happens for us to strive to see the answer.
The answer is love. You must love others, even the ones that hurt you and invade your home and your life. Start getting comfortable with being uncomfortable. Be at peace. Or else you won't truly learn the meaning of the universe. You'll just keep burning others and yourself.

What a waste of time, money and talent trying to build one man's ego. Aronofsky!
This is the sickest movie I've ever seen, the director-author is giving us his own personal idea of life here in this earth, with no hope at all, life is difficult and understanding God has its spiritual work to do and when you find HIM (God as an spiritual person not the HIM as Bardem) you can understand the purpose of life and is when hope is born, and I guess this movie is just for people who thinks and feels like Aronofsky (there is no hope not a single joy in this movie, I really hate this movie I finished watching it. I took out the dvd and I broke it instantly. I do not really want to talk about religion but the certainty of God's existence and the wonderful purpose for my life I do not see in any corner of the film. Totally scabrous, sadistic and full of evil (the end of the days. On the other hand, everyone's performance is impeccable they deserve all the prizes for their performance. Sorry if you dont like my opinion, this is my personal point of view, and I understand many will disagree.
Poor guy Aronofsky. trying to find God in wrong places. I hope you could read me Darren, look for Got into your heart, not in your mind, HE is too much to define as you dared to do through this film. .wrong path!

Not every movie is for shallow people who dont understand crap. This movie is not for those who just want to have a good time. Its for those who understand and respect understand it. The director said that the best part is that its open for interpretation. There can be a million meanings for this movie. It was beautiful but its not everyones cup of tea. It was a beautiful movie. Though not for everyone. Just because people dont understand something doesnt mean it sucks.
People just love hating. Remember this. If youre not famous or rich or renowned like her. Stop hating. Cause you aint nowhere near her to judge her. After all shes the highest paid actress in holly wood and arguably in the world and youre just a salty ass petty person behind a screen. There is a difference between constructive criticism and hate. Be constructive not hate full.

I loved this film but considering how sensitive people are to religion, a lot of serious religious people probably despise this film, also it's very complex so you really have to think, come up with your own conclusion because nothings truly answered, and I think the baby scene was incredibly horrific and upsetting so it might be too much for some folks. I think mainstream audiences are too used to generic slashers or creepy ghost horror films that surreal flicks like this go under the radar and are bashed by people who want a pop corn flick. It's like how teenagers think old music is rubbish or how the best new music is mostly indie while trashy, generic pop is in the charts because people like familiarity and nothing new or different

Is this movie artistically intriguing like Winchester (some horror dynamic but it's the dialog and aesthetics of the movie that kept me watching) or is it slow and snore-worthy like the snowman and the new Bladerunner movie? The trailer to the snowman had me thinking that it'd be a fast paced manhunt to find the killer but it was slow and hum-drum. As for Bladerunner, everyone in the damn movie talked slow and monotone, I was bored to tears and even being a hater of the millennial condition, I couldn't stop staring at my phone(in anticipation for the end of the movie.

A screening of mother is an intense, bewildering and disturbing experience Couldn't agree more, totally 100% true, but you know what? That is EXACTLY what a psicological thriller should be and I love this movie for that, because for me it has set a parameter of what a Thriller MASTERPIECE is, all those wussies that critizise this movie because of that should just not watch Thrillers, because watching them and then complaining about how dosturbing they were is like watching Toy Story and complaining about how many toys there were in it.

Conservatives probably avoided a Jennifer Lawrence film
Liberals probably weren't keen on the age gap and the fact there was no victim narrative
Christians probably avoided contentious criticism
The masses probably avoided it because it required them to think
I thought it was a good film, much better than I expected given the amount of flak it got
Not sure it really flopped anyway, as it never was a blockbuster type production. Maybe it'll be one for the ages

This was a disturbingly horrible meaningless film filled with pointless violence and incoherent insanity. I am sorry I wasted my time watching it. What is wrong with people? Why would ANYONE think this kind of trash would be worth making. And why would any actor think their career could possibly be enhanced by appearing in such trash? In my personal opinion, Darren Aronofsky should be barred from making any more films. Humans are very weird.

It failed because it was a bad film. you really do NOT want to go to see a movie after a difficult day at work and spend all the time in the dark theater trying to figure out what the hell is happening. You want to be entertained, thrilled, frightened, shocked, titillated etc, but not to be given an inscrutable test by the math teacher for which you had no idea you even had to cram. 'Nuff said on that score and better luck next time Jennifer!
