Knowing that they were adapting Infinity War eventually, why would Marvel even consider killing off Nebula in the first Guardians. Who knows if the role she plays in 4 will be nearly as impactful as her comic counterpart, but I imagine they would want to keep her around to have the option.

Im pretty sure Loki was supposed to disappear into Asgard jail, too, after Avengers. But, when Hiddleston as Loki made that surprise appearance at Comic Con 2013, and it was obvious the effect he had on the crowd, they brought him back. Loki is one of the best characters in the MCU.

Bobby Ewing in Dallas was to die and his wife/widow was going to be JRs main foe. Farscape's Chana was to die but at last min kept her. Ripley in the book and movie was a man till they gender changed the character

What about Spike from BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER. He was supposed to be killed off half way through season 2 but he was so popular that the crew reconsidered.
