There's another big one that they missed. In the movie Tora, Tora, Tora, there's a scene during the actual bombing sequence that was totally unplanned, and actually had the cast and crew running for their lives. One of the RC planes that started to take off, lost control and veered hard to the left into the other planes (most of them paper mache) but because of all the people there, they decided that it was best to detonate the explosives, and with it the gasoline for the intended scene. The people you saw running for their lives, really were. That was all stunt people

The plane was supposed go straight down the runway then explode. When it turned to the side, the crew were really running for their lives. Because no one was hurt, and it looked so good, the director kept the footage in the final cut.

And Margret Hamilton's stand in/stunt double was severely injured when the prop broom she was sitting on for the surrender Dorothy scene exploded. They ended up using a small model and a closeup shot of Hamilton with a rear projection for the background. The exploding broomstick was surely captured on film but the footage was most certainly destroyed.

I understand that in the 1958 version of Ben Hur, starring Charlton Heston in the title role, there was fatality left in. One of the guards standing against the central structure was pulled under one of the chariots and crushed under the wheels when his tunic was caught. His family consented for this to remain in the film and so it has.

Of course, Buster Keaton always did his own stunts during the height of his career. Once he tried to jump between two buildings, missed, slammed into the side of the second building, and fell several stories, but managed to catch an awning that broke his fall. Wound up in the film, and Buster wouldn't have it any other way.

I hope you'll make more of these videos and include the scene from LOTR when Aragorn kicks the helmet and screams in frustration, when he actually broke his toe. Also from the same movie, when Sam runs into the water and steps on a shard of glass that goes right through his foot.

One old one was Buster Keaton in 'Sherlock Jr. ' he is knocked from a water tower onto a railroad track and broke his neck. Only he didn't actually realise how bad it was till years later when the damage from the untreated break started to cause his pain.

In Mad Max The Road Warrior the scene where the guy flys through the air, hits a pole and flips end over end before impact, is a stunt gone awry. The Stunt man is really injured. The scene was left in the movie because it was absolutely astonishing.

OMG DID YOU MISS ONE! Convoy 1978. Madge Sinclair's Truck over turns. Kept in the film. As it happens, you can see production staff running to the truck but in the up close. Unsure if the upclose shots of her are apart of accident of later filmed.
