John Rambo Looks Like A Cowboy Now In Rambo 5 First Look
video description
Thousands of American soldiers fought in rice paddies and jungles in Vietnam, but the men of the Studies and Observation Group(SOG) including Green Beret Officer Stallone, fought a different war against the North Vietnamese Army.
SOG recon teams generally consisted of three American Special Forces soldiers and six to 10 allied Montagnard, Chinese Nung, Cambodian or Vietnamese soldiers. Recon teams struck 15 to 50 miles deep into Laos, Cambodia and North Vietnam.
Few of them were officers. Most were enlisted men -- Green Beret volunteers and among them the now Hollywood actor Sylvester Stallone (Officer Stallone. They attacked North Vietnamese bases in Cambodia and Laos and disrupted traffic on the Ho Chi Minh Trail.
They gave us a briefing, and said, 'Now, you're all volunteers now, ' and we were on a classified mission into Laos, says former SOG soldier Maj. Frank Jaks.
About 2, 000 Americans served in SOG between 1964 and 1972. More than 300 of them died.
Whenever you got the Army Times there, you'd read the names in the obituary column, and you knew a lot of them in there, says retired SOG soldier Robbie Robbins.
Rescuing Allied prisoners was difficult because the North Vietnamese moved them frequently. A major raid on the Son Tay prison to rescue American POWs was unsuccessful.
The real thing that goes through your mind was the disappointment of not finding anybody there, Robbins says.
Armed to the teeth, SOG teams moved quietly through fields and jungle, whispering and evading to discover what the enemy was doing. If discovered, there was usually a quick and deadly firefight. If they were lucky, they could escape by helicopters protected by American fighter planes.
Jaks led a team 50 miles into Laos to resuce a downed U. S. pilot.
We got the guy and put him on the chopper. He says, 'I didn't realize that we had American aviation here. ' I said, 'We don't and forget what you have seen here, ' he says.
Dick Norris led Recon Team Illinois over the fence into Laos.
We went in by helicopter and came out by Vietnamese helicopter. We stayed in there five days. I was wounded along with one Montagnard, he says.
Fort Bragg has always been headquarters for special forces. The lessons and tactics learned by the recon teams in Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam are now taught at the John F. Kennedy special warfare center and school.

Just let the series die. All I've been seeing is people trying to bring back old titles for the sake of doing so without any regard to the beauty of semi-ambiguous endings. It's always a but-wait moment 10+ years after a conclusion story in a series for people. Let shit die in peace instead of hitting it with the god damn defibrillators every damn time it closes its eyes. It's like people don't know how to respect the concept of carefully crafted endings that are there EXPLICITLY to loosely (on purpose) tie up the end of a story and give you something to think about well after its conclusion. Classy endings like the ending of Rambo IV can be related to a painting, you get to see the focus and the main idea along in the middle with some of the surrounding data, but seldom are you allowed to see what is OUTSIDE of the conclusion of the painting, there is a beauty to that conclusion. The closer you get to the edge of the artwork the more and more ambiguous it becomes and the more and more your mind begins to take over and wander, the painting (in this case the ending of Rambo IV) leaves you with this aftertaste (edges of a painting) that guides your mind and helps you continue his story if you wish to do so. You think about what his life would be like after the movie, you think about whether he could truly live in peace after all he's seen, you think about how peaceful the landscape looks and whether he will ever find joy in his solitude, you think about him possibly living the most peaceful life he can before he dies of old age. It's shit like that that the creators of semi-ambiguous endings think about, it's very carefully crafted and yet, sure enough simple minded people of the world that don't know their ass from a hole in the ground ask for MOAR! MOAR! And of course for the sake of cash, film studios would be happy to oblige, at the expense of the good memory of the series. I honestly think Rambo currently sits well on everyone's minds as a classic. Lets not make the same exact mistake as Star Wars, Rocky and countless others.

I read the book by David Morrell when I was 13, 43 years ago. I was happy with the first film because Sly put so much effort into getting it right. The idea that such a highly trained soldier would be the worst nightmare for the police, if he ever went off the rails. Two was good but just a remake of Chuck Norris's Missing In Action. Three was okay but unbelievable. Four was a good way to wrap the story up with him returning home. This new movie sounds good, it will be good to see an old friend again. To me though, he is always the Rambo in the book, when the police are chasing him through the woods, in the rain, and a broken radio message comes through, telling them who he is; Rambo, static. Green Beret, static. Medal of Honor, static. and they realize they are not hunting him, he is hunting them.

Why do i get the feeling he's going to kill rambo off, go out gran torino style like clint eastwood.
The only way to finish rambo up imo is for him to die, after having such a restless life it'd be the only peace he could get to end it happily ever after.
I'd also love to see a prequel directed by stallone with another younger actor, be awesome to release both at the same time, be the birth and death of rambo, a bittersweet finale.

Goddamn but this makes sense: putting a spin on an old action-franchise genre by using the trappings of another, much older genre that's fallen out of popularity. Plot: A hardened war veteran rancher who thinks his gunslinging days are over, is forced to pick up his pistols one more time to rescue a friend's daughter from a small army of Mexican banditos. Straight up old-school TV Guide description. CLASSIC.

I'm sure a few of you have read the book First Blood. I read it A short time Before the movie came out and was looking forward to Stallone being a psycho kill crazy Vietnam vet. Then the movie came and I was crushed that he was a much 'nicer' killer. I guess he sort of made up for it in the following movies, but I would still like to see the Author, s original merciless Rambo.

To be honest, I loved the first Rocky movie, way back in 1976. I also loved the first Rambo movie, I think in 1982. But, not so much the following episodes. In life, all things come to an end. This time has come for Rocky and Rambo. Move on to something else. Sure, make a Cowboy movie if you want, just don't name it Rambo V. Make a new story line and rename the thing!

No disrespect to Mr. Stallone, but he did not even get close to the real character of Rambo in the novel. Rambo was a witty, young, smart ass and was much more complex and did not need a huge Rambo knife to do his stuff. Please Mr. Stallone, find an unknown Rambo, and redo this story with the right ending.

mmm well it make sence, i dont realy liked how Rambo 4 end, at least not seeing him walk all the way to the ranch rather paying respect to the colonel Trautman that i suppose its already death, but well, a new try to fix some things, and end how its should, like Trautman have said, he have to close the circle

What the! He's a cowboy/rancher now! What happened to his long hair and headband? Oh well, I like the first look though, long as he carries his headband and bow. What I really look forward to seeing is the next knife he'll use. Can't wait to see what knife design will be or look when he draws out.
