Empire Strikes Back elevated Star Wars beyond just being an action sci-fi thrill ride, due to the work of everyone involved NOT named George Lucas. and as it turns out, much of what everyone saw in Star Wars in 1977, was the result of everyone involved NOT named George Lucas either.
Gary Kurtz was actually the one directing the actors, NOT Lucas. Ralph McQuarries visual designs was responsible for the look of the movie. you can even thank the execs at 20th century fox for rejecting Lucas first draft (whats in this video, thereby forcing him and others to rewrite movie. EVERYONE around him during the making of the first trilogy are the ones who made the franchise good.
the prequels was his response to NOT having to answer to anyone around him BUT himself only. and we ended up getting a self-indulgent piece of crap prequel trilogy.

I think the original draft, after the usual work by writers, would have been an awesome movie(s. But I don't think it would have had the impact the original Star Wars trilogy made upon the world. However, having said that, I would love to see an alternate Star Wars universe movie using this original draft. Star Trek used an alternate reality plot point to good effect, I think it would be amazing to use that idea for a thoroughly entertaining movie where fans would see familiar Star Wars characters, locations and story plots, but with the obvious twists which would create a movie full of surprises for most SW fans. It wouldn't be in any way cannon so there would be no reason to reject it, and fans could just enjoy it. As for Looper's question, I don't know if anything was better as it would be purely personal opinion, but it is thought provoking to see where the character/story ideas originated and how they may have inspired extended universe ideas.

Twin Pines Condos, Clock Tower Plaza, Bluebird Restaurant and LMC are located in Logan Utah, the birthplace of the writer!
LMC and DMC were both owned by John Delorean.

Cool video! I remember getting the hardcover pressing once all the issues were out and reading it going what is this? that was before the new Trilogy had started and I have to say now I can have a greater appreciation for this with a contrast to the new movies.
This is a cool alternate take on Star Wars, and if we regard the Sequel trilogy as an alternate take on the Original Trilogy, I prefer THE Star Wars as something more refreshing than the Sequels!
It's interesting to see how different character elements were merged to have a more trim character roster! I think it was an interesting comic, but the George's later version was better for sure!

I think this idea is amazing and actually sounds really interesting, and would have been really cool to also see a movie like this. However not in the time that a new hope came out. This is too complicated and would have required too many special effects and would have ultimately ruined the movie back then. Now if it were something that came out in the early to mid 2000s with great special effects, great acting, and even better directing this would also make a great movie. But I think it has a really good place being a graphic novel

And the only story Disney is interested in telling is a knock-off version of Twilight meant for young girls/teens.
They had no intention of marketing to men.
Why would they?
They only sell one product.
Princess fairytales mixed with witchcraft!
Look at any of their multitudes of films and tell me I'm wrong.

It is certainly interesting to see where the inspiration came from and how it eventually evolved into the Star Wars we know now! Good lesson for any filmmaker that, your ideas dont have to be set in stone!

I wonder how they sourced the original script. It's my understanding the original production was a meandering story of a teen boy on a desert planet, not much of a plot or character development, just lots of shots of emo teen. The entire plot of Episode 4 was manufactured in post The plot portrayed in this video seems to be more of a fan edit mashup with Clone Wars.

It were the Jedi who shunned their emotions whilst the Sith embraced their feelings.
You know, that is exactly how it works in the original star wars as well. Whilst Jedi control their emotions, so their judgement is never clouded and their motives never selfish. Whilst the Sith use their (darker) emotions to tap further into the Dark Side.

Who cares about what we almost saw from original Star Wars, what we got was a masterpiece!
How about showing us what we almost saw from JJ Abrams version of episode 8 instead of that crapfest we got called The Last Jedi.
