I mean, I dont think any of these villains are going to be the next major villain after Thanos moving forward.
1) Hela has been used and is presumed dead at this point
2) Kang is probably the most likely
3) Mephisto is hard to use considering the only Ghost Rider in the MCU was only briefly in AoS. Unless F4 and SS join the MCU, hes unlikely
4) The hate-monger is just dumb.
5) The First Firmament is seems a little out there. I feel like hed be a better Doctor Strange villain than anything else. Hard to have the Avengers fight him when Galactus and he Eternals has to defeat him

Hahaha, this is how you can tell a scriptwriter isn't really someone who knows what they're talking about.
Thanos' motives actually were _NOT_ altruistic. He wanted to kill half the people in the universe to impress Death and make her his woman. That's it. Yes. Thanos wanted all up in Death's bonebox.
That thing in the movies wasn't Thanos. It wasn't even a bastardization of Thanos. That thing is as far as Thanos can possibly get from being Thanos. It makes me puke.

Thanos is a contraction of Thanatos, an embodiment of death. That's why, in the comics, he worships Lady Death and curries her favor.
And yes, Mephisto is a contraction of Mephistopheles, an archetype of Satan as a tempter, one who undermines the virtue of the protagonist. In the comics, he acts as a henchman and sidekick to Thanos, because it amuses him to do so. :)

In movies, everywhere I see they sell the women like more powerful, better and smarter than men when it doesn't matter what you do. That will never happen in real life. There is a plan in converting Men to women and women to Men.

Surely someone else has brought this up. But in the original Infinity Gauntlet story which the Avengers movie takes it's plot line from, Mephisto appears in the story as almost a sycophant to Thanos. Though to be fair, maybe his presence was meant as a juxtaposition to express the enormity of the idea of a Thanos in possession of the Infinity stones.

Consider the Black Order. Each member is a powerful villain in their own right, but yet they fear the power of sans-gauntlet Thanos enough to be his lackeys. When Corvus Glaive takes over Thanos' territory thinking he's out of the picture, but then Thanos returns, he kills himself rather than attempting to battle Thanos.

The original Thanos is a narcissist and a nihilist, just boggled my mind why the Russos thought he should be more 'noble' and relatable. Why not just make him crazy, but explain why he's crazy - kind of like the Joker? I would love to see Mephisto in Phase 4. He's all over the place and very manipulative.

Let's get something straight about Thanos: in the comics, he murdered half the universe to impress a chick. He had no higher motivations. It's nice that the movies made his goal more sympathetic but too many people think this is how he is in the comics.
