Why Captain Marvel Blew Everyone Away At The Box Office Dean: Captain Marvel got a lot of people to go to the movie because it was part of the Marvel Universe and Avengers story - guaranteed sales. However, this is the most DC-like movie they have made so far. At the end of the movie I felt like I did not feel anything for her character or her character arc because it happened so fast and she became so powerful - for free. There was no long character struggle story, no pain and suffering to sit through, like every other character arc in the MCU that took several movies where you saw the character maturing and growing more powerful over time. This was instant hero mix added to water and poof, Captain Marvel is this invincible, all powerful hero. This is lazy script writing and the worst Marvel movie so far. Lazy editing too because there is one scene where she and Fury are running away from the camera down a hallway and she has the worst duck run I have ever seen in my life. No movie is good unless we see the protagonist go the struggle and maturation that we get to see over time (hopefully with good acting as well. Would much rather have seen Captain Marvel series commence earlier and lead up to this. Tons of plot holes here on why she was never even paged in the first world threatening invasion. I give this movie a 5 out of 10 on scripting, plot and acting, an extra point for being part of the MCU, but the worst rushed superhero-in-a-can movie by Marvel so far. Transformers made tons of money and are HORRIBLE films. So monetary success definitely does not equal quality. Brie Larson is a good actress, to bad she did not get a chance to show it with this rushed storyline, and the Nick Fury eye/cat thing was the pinnacle of incompetent, lazy, & pointless story writing in the movie - it wasn't even funny. So sad to see the first female superhero movie in the MCU treated with such a watered-down storyline approach and character development. Reminded me of Rey in the new Force Awakens getting instant force powers with zero training. Luke Skywalker had first train with Obi Wan, then train with Yoda, and Rey just starts fighting like and expert with a light saber and over-powering the force grab of Kylo Ren with zero training. Lazy script writing is becoming a pattern when Disney starts controlling things. I think they are doing women a disservice by not treating their character arcs with as much time and care as other male-portrayed lead characters with take several movies to develop, mature and make us fall in love with them by earning our respect. The Wasp from Ant-Man has better character development in a secondary role than Captain Marvel. For the Marvel standard (which is the highest bar for superhero movies, this movie rates a Meh - too bad.

I heard somewhere that theaters and producers make deals showing the movies. Sometimes, during the opening week depending on the movie, the producers get 100% of the take (usually I think it is like 90%. This percentage goes down week by week and theaters get more and more eventually. I don't know if this is true but if it is, the reported earnings of these movies in the first weekend/week are next to meaningless. If the producers get 100% or so, they can buy tickets for say 100M or 300M that they will get back not making any profit and not really offsetting production and advertising costs. This will make the take look big but it isn't. You have to look at how many seats are being filled. For Captain Marvel, there were theaters that had lots of seats unfilled but tickets bought opening weekend. So the money figures for ticket sales may be just as bogus as Rotten Tomatoes critic numbers.

hears what i thought
when i saw this movie I felt tired and nauseated at the end and i just was so angry that anything boringly weird would be out, the color was off for the Avengers and the movie felt rely bland then i went to see what Rotton tomatoes says about it and it was a 77 percent WHAT! then when i scrolled through the good reviews and all i saw was this movie has alot of feminist proportions and also this movie will keep the die hard fans at ease and I was just baffled does anyone care about the acting at all, Nick fury was cringe and everyone else was better than the lead, also Australian alians ''sigh'' this is just the movie i hate where nothing happens I fell asleep in the theater so its that boring and to anyone who says it broke box office well is it a good movie no well screw it its bad

Captain Marvel will prove to be a 'poison pill', yes Disney got their, and their Media hoopla out of it. but it will cost them for years to come, the way that garbage movie TLJ cost them. The hardcore Star Wars fans will never forgive that garbage being shoveled to them. and hardcore Marvel fans will never forgive this garbage retro-rewrite of everything the Russo brothers had created the last ten years, and the forcing of this character into the End Game.
Unfortunately for Marvel, DC is getting the hang of making good super hero flicks right at the time when Marvel is getting ready to decline. Downey, Evans and Hemsworth are leaving. The Russo brothers are being sidelined. End Game in more ways than one.

i love Marvel and DC and based on that, I watched the movie. The reviews were average and yes the movie was quite average as well. I saw it because of the Marvel universe. One movie links to an other movie. I didn't watch Hellboy because of the reviews and there was no universe. Other movies, I really need to wait for the reviews and wait for people to watch in first. If the movie doesn't do well at the box office, I do not watch it.
The worst movie for me was justice League 2 but still watched Aquaman and Shazam because I wanted them to do well. Dc has now started to turn around. It's good if they both do well

Blew everyone away my arse. It was average at best with a seriously average character and loads of politics NOBODY ASKED FOR. If it made bank at the Box Office it is because ENDGAME is just around the corner. End of Story. Christ I hope they don't undo almost 2 decades of brilliant work creating The MCU by focusing on Captain Marvel too much. .. It would be a massive disservice to all the other amazing characters.

I seriously wanted to understand why Looper thinks Captain Marvel blew everyone away. It didn't even impress Marvel fans and I'm not talking about the fanbois. After watching this video CM still remains an underwhelming story to me even if it didn't have Endgame succeeding it. Let's face it, in fact Endgame was the only reason for CM's commercial success and it is only that. A commercial success.

Omg! The movie was not a full blown success its bad. To be clear not bad as in it lost money, its marvel for crying out loud. It is the worst marvel movie to date and the only reason it made money is EVERYONE else in MCU and ENDGAME. I see more positive reviews of the damn cat than Brie hold my bear I am gonna upset the fandom Larson!

Is Looper unaware of the astonishing amount of bad reviews this movie has received, that Disney bought up millions of tickets to raise box office numbers, that Disney paid or pressured theaters to show only that movie for the entire weekend, etc. etc. etc? Battle Angel Alita is already surpassing this /pol flick. Wake up, Looper.
