who's gonna comment on the disappearance of bijorns first wife and death on his daughter and his unphasedness towards it.
yeahhhhhh!
as a whole, the show was great for the first 4 seasons( it was a united show with the same one great goal) but the details like that ( or the wondered and aslaug and then floki seeing them, then forgetting about it or helga and the kid, that could be a thing actually but they just never followed through with any of the maybe cool storylines) it just had unnecessary misleading bits like that. there was really no need! I was actually waiting to see if floki is getting seers powers after that or if harbard meant anything for the show. a lot was squished in for no apparent reason! also yes a lot of plots and storylines at the same time. after the 4th season it stopped being a whole united show and turned into some bits here and there with no meaning for the general goal and the purpose of the show.
but i just loved the characters and their interactions and oooofff the raidings! the fights! they are worth the watch. this show had the potential to really expand meaningfully and even make it to the 10th season but the writings were weak. that Arabian raid with bijorn alone could be a really cool story if told and portrayed correctly.

Did we forget that some of these scenes, are a part of actual viking history? It's not that Travis Fimmel (Ragnar Lothbrok) WANTED to leave, that simply is how history was written in the events happening at the time! Ragnar was killed by King Aelle, by being dropped into a pit of snakes. That was the REAL Ragnar Lothbrok's demise. The beautiful thing is how Michael Hirst put more story within it, rather than Ragnar being captured and killed, Ragnar willingly walked to his death, planned it out. In my opinion they could not have done it better, and those who abolished their interest in the show, truly didn't care for the history of the show, despite it's few inaccuracies. Such as, Ragnar wasn't the one to jump out of the coffin and take princess Gisla 'hostage'.
In the end, it's a fantastic show, beginning to (almost) end. It's because of the people that chose not to finish what they've buried themselves 4 seasons into. who didn't want to see the REVENGE for Ragnar and how him having all of those sons really affected the future of the Vikings. that they will not finish it the way they should.
That is my only disappointment.

I just finished binge watch the entire series Vikings this past weekend. With the passing of Ragnar, the show lost momentum. The only character whose story I wanted to see play out was Lagertha. I was totally through with Floki who was always so ready to betray Ragnar, always leaping to exaggerated conclusions, thus making himself small and tiresome. As I was meant to I suppose, I despised Ivar, who was a vindictive lunatic throughout most episodes. But then I never do much care for people who carry chips on their shoulder and live the pity party incessantly. Bjorn was well on his way to becoming sullen and miserable and a serial cheater. Betrayed not one, but two shield maidens of amazing character and beauty. Not much to admire there. The payoff for me was the consistent valor of the shield maidens, that we particularly got to know who were all betrayed by their Viking warrior significant others. Ragnar was the only one who recognized and atoned for his sins/crimes. But Lagerthas send off was all that it shouldve been. She stood by Ragnar in that which was most honorable in him. Ubbe is the only of Ragnars sons that I liked by the end.

The real reason:
Seasons 1-4: An intimate journey alongside a complex, well written character. Ragnar is all that human beings are: contradictory, flawed, strong yet vulnerable, adventurous and ambitious yet longing for a simple life; animalistic yet interested in enriching his knowledge of the world and of himself; loving yet harsh.
He is accompanied by a plethora of supporting characters which, though not as nuanced, also have inner journeys and complexity (like Ecbert, for example. Loved Linus Roach's performance.
Also, 10 episode seasons. Straight and to the point. No filler.
Seasons 5: Good guys vs crazy baddie who decorates his halls like the Nazis.
Characters we know and love (Lagertha and Bjorn) not put to good use and explored in more depth, like Ragnar in the first 4 seasons.
Are we supposed to care about the monochromatic characters that Ragnar's sons are?
20 episode cash grab, full of filler plots.
Haven't started season 6 yet. Hope it gets better, though I know it won't.
Have a good day.

I don't think Ivar the boneless was a boring character, an evil cripple who was totally under rated by his own kind and then rose to power through evil and vengeance, i also think Bjorn and Ubber are good characters too but the show definitely took a turn down south after Ragnars death. Whenever these shows kill off lead characters that the viewers have watched develop through the series and then introduce new ones its almost like the series ended when they killed off the main character. Ragnars sons despite how well they played their parts, never stood a chance for that reason really.

The creater of the show was clueless. The show had nothing except Ragnar Lothbrok. He was the only thing that binded things together. and like a dumb move. they just killed him. what were they thinking! They never imagined this to be this successful. They didn't planned for Ragnar. I watched till 4th season. after that i stopped. there is no point in watching more. And wasting time. There are hundred others like this. But Ragnar was special. The creater didn't understood that soon enough.

I hate it how in season 6 they suddenly started pushing feminist messages everywhere so obviously. And it really wasnt necessary at all I meant they have always had more than enough strong female charakters in vikings and while in the first few seasons the female charakters and their relation to the male ones was balanced and realistic in the sixth season they are wearing thick feminist plot armour and every second sentance coming out of thair mouth is sudenly some wrong feminist message.

Naahhh come on. Until season 3 everything was really awesome. Season 4 became lame and they were already killing of Ragnar little by little. If they gave Ragnar more time with his sons and just more of who he could still be and make that ill old man Ragnar less long. That would be muchhh better. That he questioned the gods was already clear from season 2. 5/3 so to make him question and be weird for a full to 1. 5 season was a dumb move. Nevertheless this series was really awesome!
