What Went Wrong With Tom Holland's 'Unreleasable' Movie

What Went Wrong With Tom Holland's 'Unreleasable' Movie Andrew: I do wonder what exactly was so horrifically wrong with the first cut of the film that made the test audiences and studio execs hate it so much. It could have been bad adaptation problems, like poor pacing, exposition, or structure, but I'd say the source material itself could be just as likely to annoy people.
The Chaos Walking books are WEIRD, extremely experimental in style, with the extraordinarily interesting gimmick of the noise. It's also very culturally-politically charged, and really doesn't shy away from discussing sore topics like Patriarchy or the Native American Genocide.
So I'm really hoping here these reshoots aren't about rewriting the story, dumbing it down for the mass market audience, like what happened to I Am Legend. If that's the case I really would have preferred if they had just not spent all that money on hiring A-list actors and spent 10M instead of 100M on the production, so the film would still succeed with a smaller release and narrower target audience.

Theres not a way that the book could be made into a decent movie. Not with the concept anyway. sometimes a book series needs to stay as a book and not a movie because sometimes movies ruin the greatness of the originals.
If you can see and hear noise like the book says, everything would be a mess in the first prentisstown at the start of the movie. The books are told by Todd and Viola themselves so how would the movie turn out if its a 2 person told story? Honestly, Im glad it was cancelled. Keep the Chaos Walking series away from cameras. At least until its older and more well known

this makes me so so so sad. the books are incredible. INCREDIBLE. and im so excited there to be a movie but i will be absolutely gutted if this movie turns out bad. i think i would literally cry. but i understand why this is happening because the books are so complex that i have no clue how it will be turned into a movie but god i hope it works out because if the movies bad then people who havent read the books most likely will think that the books are the same

I'm glad this never made it to the big screen because the books are fantastic (also way closer to sci-fi than dystopian imo) and they would've never done them justice. I love Tom and Daisy but they were horribly miscast, they were too old to begin with. I cringe every time someone doing a story on this movie refers to Viola's character as a woman when these characters are literally supposed to be 13-14. I will say, the rest of cast would've been amazing.

Have read the books, loved the story, saw that there where some pretty good actors in the cast, surprised it was deemed unsuitable for public consumption. Dont really care about ratings, opinions etc just need a finished product for I know I will enjoy it. I dont even mind if I will be the only one that enjoys it.

Chaos Walking is such a gritty, beautifully strange series that doesn't deserve to be lumped in with the other mediocre 'young Adult' messes. I'm weirdly glad it's not being released, I'd hate for a god awful movie adaptation to taint such an unique trilogy.

So they could just do a direct to video release to try and recoup their money, and there will always be a group of people that find it to be a hidden gem which will allow it to have a cult following in the future.

Ima say this I dont think hes all that great of an actor and cant carry a movies dialogue. I just dont feel like the Mj relationship is authentic this time and I dot feel like its the actresses fault

I don't think the popularity of teen post-apocalyptic movies is the problem. It's the fact that they keep getting shittier and shittier. If good movies were made in the genre, I'm sure they'd do well.

The chaos walking trilogy was such a great read that I was kind of disappointed to learn that Tom were to play Todd, as the character is originally a 13 year old boy and not a man in his 20s
