Oscar Voters Give Their Honest Opinions About Joker Patrick: The people who disliked the film fall into three categories: those who are right, those who are wrong, and those who didn't get it. Those who say it is derivative of Taxi Driver and similar films are correct, and that is a fair criticism, although I think it is forgiveable since the vast majority of the audience (myself included) won't have seen the films that it is derivative of. Those who say that the movie is too violent or that it was irresponsible are objectively wrong, it is not their place to diagnose problems in the modern world and decide whether the unwashed masses can possibly cope with watching it. Films don't cause mass shootings, a complex web of socio-economic factors do, and whether telling people they shouldn't be allowed to see their real life issues depicted on screen is highly insulting. In fact, rather than cause a mass shooting, the imagery of this film was borrowed by several pro-democracy, anti-austerity protests around the world in 2019. Finally, there are those who don't get it. The film is dark and gritty and pointless, there's no message and no good guys, because that's the point. That's the Joker. This film embodies the character fully, from the cinematography to the dialogue. But it's not their fault that they didn't get it, either because they're not familiar with the IP or because the film failed to communicate properly or whatever reason.

I have always hated joaquin. I thought he was a cynical pretentious douche and a far overrated actor. I watched joker last night and he was brilliant. It really is some of the best acting i have seen in years and i try to watch everything foreign and domestic that peaks interest or prestige. Just a small thing that hit me were parts where he would be laughing while at the same time look like he was crying and then almost start gagging. Or when he shoots the guys on the train and for one second he brings the gun to his head. Its as if the joker doesnt know if he should kill himself or just wants to keep the bloodshed going. Then theres the part where he shoots murray and just sots back in his chair proud like its a throne. Before he leaves he does a little dance for like 2 seconds. I dont know it just really grabbed me. I hadnt expected for the movie to make you feel such sympathy for him. I really appreciated that.

The thing about Joker is it makes you face something about yourself. Either you're Arthur being beat down by the world. Or you're one of the bullies doing the beating. I think many who don't like the movie see themselves as the latter and couldn't stand the way that made them feel. Their world is one of privilege and comfort and it's pains them to be faced with a reality in which there are people with lives like Arthur Fleck. They would rather look away and pretend like that world isn't real. They hate that they felt sympathy for someone that is a murderer because in their black and white world good people are good and bad people are bad. And never the two shall mix.

Personally, as a Joker fan, I found this movie to be a shit show. Yes, Phoenix's acting was great, but I am basing my review on who the Joker is as a character.
Joker is supposed to be brilliant, diabolical, and strategic. Yes, he is mentally disturbed, but he is very on par with Batman's intelligence. He is Batman's polar opposite as his perfect antagonist.
All I saw in this movie was a guy who needed serious psychiatric help, and did not have the intelligence level to be called the Joker.
I honestly dozed off three times, being thoroughly bored with this movie. It is completely undeserving of all of its critical acclaim, and success. End of rant.

the woman didnt like the movie because the movie she said: it never had a point? OMG IS SHE DUMB? LMAO! the movie is a about a mentally ill broken man trying to find his place in the world, simple as!
.
also i find it ironic that she says the movie has no point but in general what is The Jokers motivations in comics and games ect? NOTHING! he does what he does without any point or reason and if she knew 1% about The Joker she would know that

They hated this film because its one of the most difficult character to portray and some narrow minded member of the guild that doesn't want this kind of movie. But now that the Oscars gave the best actor to Joaquin tthey will need to watch it all over again. Enter to the world of The Joker!

The purpose of this movie is to show what individuals with financial struggles, depression and anxiety who are outcasted by society go through. The contents of this movie is simply too real for fake and shallow people to understand.

platoon didnt feel like a happy movie either. i got news for the critics, a lot of people are tired of cliche movies with the same plot where everything ties up in a neat little package and everyones happy. real life isnt like that.

Thematic point is; once society abandons people with mental disabilities the out comes can be as devastating as depicted in the film. You cant say it has no thematic point or its too dark because that is what it is suppose to do.

I dont get how people say this is too dark, its pretty basic overall he kills 3 people with a gun. Before seeing this movie I honeslty thought thered be something waaaay more disturbing because thats what everyone was saying.
