Details About The Live-Action Akira Remake Finally Revealed xevious2501: Ya know. Directors always say, 'who wants to see a shot for shot remake. no one and the all go on making their own interpretation of a such beloved content, and guess what. IT ALWAYS FAIL! why? Because Fact is. PEOPLE DO WANT TO SEE A SHOT FOR SHOT REMAKE IN LIVE ACTION. or at best something closely mirroring the beats and action of the original content. Reason being. The original content was GREAT! No one wants to see some other guys own personal spin on something that already proved itself to be great. In other words if your a director and cannot truly deliver something better than the original then guess what? IT WILL FAIL. so what i see with these directors and writers is the fact their Ego's get in the way of them making a great film.

I fear that they forget the essence of what makes Akiras story good for all of us fans.
Manhattan instead of Tokyo, making it more accessible, only wanting a Hollywood Star as the protagonist, only interested on the cyberpunk aesthetic and not getting deep into the rich environment.
Also, why would we need a live action for something as good as Akira, why do we need to fix something that doesnt need to be fixed?
At least the creator decides if its good or not. I rather have him making decisions instead of just letting dull, lazy Hollywood do a cheap and obvious cashgrab again, like they do with everything.

The only Americanized/western angle I would except is that they'll be the outside foreigners, the World Police, abducting and trying to weaponize Tetsuo and the kids for the next global conflict while all the Japanese, including their scientists and military, were vehement to let this most grievous nuclear war scar be able to heal in peace.
It would be more globe-trotting, finding the lab imprisoning the kids or predicting ground zero for the next world war. They'd be able to achieve their diversity quotas while still center the conflict on Japan saving the world.

If you want to remake Akira then commit and REMAKE AKIRA.
Not that Neo Manhattan bs.
Akira is the result of a societal trauma in Japan having been bombed in 1945. Its their story. Its their esthetic. Its their psyche. Do not, do not (do not) westernize Akira.
It makes no sense to Westernize that tale, these symbols and the philosophy of what Akira was/represented (in the story) and how it resolved the out-of-control mess it caused in the first place.
Do not Westernize that story. For fcks sake.

They really should make a long length trilogy of 2h movies so they could tell everything from the anime and the manga, and get the original author to put even more exclusive content into it!
6: 04 They really can't redesign the motorcycles. They were so modern back then, and are still so modern today! No touchy!
6: 44 They should get Manny Jacinto to play Kaneda. That dude was too funny in The Good Place.
lol. And Ted Danson as the US soldier guy would be funny Ha Ha. Or Ron Perlman maybe.

As much as I would love to see a live-action Akira, I was really hoping they would stick with the same story and not make Tetsuo and Kaneda brothers, and change up the story (Like how Kaneda is a bar owner. And how it would take place in Manhatten- it just doesn't feel right: / I wish they would actually have it take place in Japan, it just seems more fitting.

just got through rewatching Akira and I have to say, I agree with the Serra guy. There are a total of 0 interesting characters in the movie with 0 character development taking place at all. Everyone is really just a plot device. It was a pretty cool rewatch, but not the masterpiece everyone claims it is.

Lol everyone getting mad about them making a remake.
1. You don't have to see it
2. It doesn't magically make the original classic vanish
3. Some people like remakes. That's why they make so much money
4. Seriously, who is a remake gonna hurt besides the people who fail to make it good?

If Ridley did Blade Runner filming in LA back in 1982 just shows it doesnt matter where its filmed if the production team of passionate and guided correctly by a dedicated director. No white washing with this one. make it right or dont make it at all.

I already know this is going to be a pile of crap, that's if it gets made, DiCaprios promises mean nothing. Look at fist of the north star, anime doesn't transfer well onto the live action big screen
