Why People Are Ticked About The Simpsons On Disney+ WickedLiquid: This is the exact opposite when DVDs were popular and people had a choice between full screen and wide screen. Most people with a box screen preferred the full screen mode because their TV was in the shape of a square, not a rectangle. But they were unaware that full screen wasnt actually giving them the whole picture. Film is shot in widescreen so for a full screen DVD movie the sides of the film were cut off to form a square and then zoomed in. TV used to be the opposite and filmed to fit a standard box screen TV. So for the Simpsons seasons 1-19, the top and bottom are cut off to form a rectangle and then zoomed in to fill a modern TV today. Honestly there should be a choice which aspect ratio viewers would prefer to watch the show. Just as there was a full screen and wide screen choice when watching DVDs.

What about the rest of the content on Disney+ that has a 16: 9 crop? I can't be the only one who has noticed other shows/movies being in the wrong aspect ratio. Sure the effects aren't as bad as The Simpsons however I don't think it shouldn't be fixed. At least give us an option to have 4: 3 or a cropped 16: 9.
Just wanted to post this because literally everything I've seen has ONLY focused on The Simpsons and now the bigger issue that plagues the entire service.

Some of the scenes from actually episodes are missing too.
For example, the episode where homer goes into space has a neat homage to 2001: A Space Odyssey. In the beginning homers great ancestor has an encounter with the monolith and this entire piece is missing on Disney plus.

Everyone talking about cut episodes but no one mentions that Hulu only shows the most previous season of the Simpsons (occasionally removing episodes as well) and now on a whole other streaming service has the majority of the seasons and episodes -_-

I was planning on getting Disney+ just to watch the golden years of the Simpsons. I think I will wait. I don't want it to feel like I am watching a bootlegged version on YT when I am paying for the real deal.

I dont think its that bad. At least we still have it, its just a screen. Sure its a little annoying but (besides some episodes) at least there not cutting out severe parts of the episodes

People needs to understand old show needs to keep in 4: 3 not 16: 9. You lose a lot of image if they crop the image. Funamtion ruin DBZ home released three times using crop.

I have over 6, 000 movies and 1, 300 TV series, including The Simpsons, permanently on HDD so I am unaffected by dumb assed missteps made by any of the streaming services.

simpsons weren't meant to look so clear. something about the the first 10 episodes. the image has a slight sandy look which worked great for the show,
