I did find re-watching the show fun but watching too many at a time does become depressing. I recommend only one or two at a time or only favourite episodes, because otherwise you do start to feel like a complete failure as a human towards the planet.

The one thing I felt made Captain Planet most enjoyable to watch is that the villains would often win showing a destroyed earth, but somehow (because its TV) the show managed to put things back. My favorite villain of all time is Simon Bar Sinister from Underdog. He shrunk the world, He dried up all the world, he got mind control over everyone. Simon would always succeed and they would show what it is like for the villain to succeed. Same thing in Captain Planet. If often felt if they made a movie they should put a Sliders concept to it making an alternative earth dumping all their pollution into our earth using a sliding concept and Captain Planet would have to find a way to stop it.

Verminous Skumm is a unique case among the Eco-villains, since he primarily targeted human health and society rather than the environment. He got some pretty dark storylines, like the drug episode (he sold a drug called Bliss that got one of the Planeteers hooked, and the AIDS awareness episode when he whipped up a frenzy against a teen with AIDS (loosely based on the real-life Ryan White. I think the writers were using him to represent serious social problems that went beyond ecology, which Ted Turner was not shy about addressing.

The whole show is about occult magic to get people interested in transhumanism ahead of time and the false philanthropy and environmental salvation with blatantly wrong and right dichotomies. All of us do evil things at some level. This just makes it seem like we can still be good with the use of magic and naive blind indulgence. We cannot stop the inevitable heat death of the sun or the degradation of the planet. Unless you are on board with the rules written on the Georgia guidestones which makes you the real enemy.
