In the era of girl power, beta-males, and perverts, of feelings over facts, of wishes over work, well, the idea of one man (instead of a committee) standing for what is right against a more numerous set of opponents (instead of having a cooking/dancing competition that is overseen by judges) is just not appealing to too many movie watchers.

They miss the crux of what makes a western good: there's a thoughtful story about conflict in a rugged, pioneer-era where there's no superhero or big government to solve the problem. It's usually on one man or men to resolve human tyranny. The stories are simple, have punctuated moments of action, and allow character development.

3: 10 to Yuma remake, True Grit remake, Hostiles, the Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, and the Proposition were all very good imo.
Neo- Westerns such as No Country for Old Men, Hell or High Water, Wind River, and the underrated The Way of the Gun were all great as well.

The best western movie in recent years is( 3: 10 to yuma) its better than the old western movies in my opinion idk but it has a realistic feel to to it which is something the classic western movies miss most of them feel so cartoonish in a way, and the second on my list is (hateful eight.

My perception during the 1990's was that Westerns were perceived as too American, and other than Wyatt Earp and an occational one, as a genre, Hollywood was generally going away for it for more Progressive or Socialist movies.

People are more into graphic action/fast paced movies.
Westers from the 50's-60's are dull & too slow paced for our being conditioned to instant gratification & unlimited access so we don't have to wait for anything.

3: 10 to Yuma (2007) is one of the most underrated westerns out there, I feel like Rockstar may have taken in some influence for Red Dead II. I see a lot of Charlie Prince in Micah Bell.
