Things Only Adults Notice In Splash
video description
My theory about this kind of thing is that you earn the right to stretch the truth and stretch the logic by being logical. So if you set up a world and you establish a kind of a credibility and the characters are winning, and the audience is going with the story, that at a certain point if you want to take a leap, they'll go with you. I don't think you could do this in the first ten minutes of the movie.

You also have to remember that Allen and Madison already had an instant connection due to the fact that they met before long ago. When Allen as a young boy, he was saved from drowning by a beautiful mermaid, who at the time happened to be Madison. That connection was still there 20 years later.

There's one line from Freddy (John Candy) at the start of the movie that we didn't get as kids but totally get now: Alan says I couldn't even give her my love. There's something in here, it's not working pointing to his his heart and Freddy replies there are worse organs not to be working, ha!

Well to be fair, at that time anyway this would be pretty PG. I think kids were exposed to a lot more, at least I know I was. This movie was a little racy as a kid to watch. but it's not like it mattered? There's way more provocative stuff on social media now anyway lol

You can pretty much say the same the same thing about most movies of the 80s and early 90s, don't overthink about the logic, or pretty much don't ever think like it's done nowadays, or you'll never end up enjoying any of those movies.

They did make a splash sequel (splash too) with different actors. You'd think a before you'd make a mini doc about the a movie they'd know that. Maybe do a little more research about a movie than it takes to rewatch that movie.

You analyzed the fountain, but left out how she learned the entire English language, with American accent, by watching a few hours of TV while she was shopping. But then again, the movie was a fantasy, so does it really matter?

The whole fountain delivery can be explained in one word, MAGIC. I got to 3 minutes and I cant bare to listen to anymore of this nonsense, nitpicking at its finest. Enjoy the movie and dont take it so literal FFS

We can't be the only ones who saw this as kids and thought the behaviour of the Freddie character was gross.
It does feel like we missed a few things back then though. Might have to rewatch it and make our own vid lol
